the first batches of the elite were no different to normal ones other than their black casing, so theres no reason for them to be any more reliable, more recent versions of all 360s are shipping with an additional heatsink on the GPU, which should help reduce the problems. I believe the smaller die cpu machines are in production now and will be in the stores once the current stocks are sold.
If you were to return your faulty elite to MS, im pretty sure they will return one with the additional heatsink.
