If Play actually said that then it's true.
I'd say the Japanese launch would avoid whatever date FFXIII is launching in.
In case of the West this would be one epic line-up
October 27 - Gran Turismo 5
November 3 - Bioshock 2
November 10 - Modern Warfare 2
November 17 - Assassin's Creed 2
I'm not getting my hopes up for a false date. Just wait until PD or SCEE confirms it.
Also guys, there has been reports that on TGS 09, they will announce a PS3 price drop, and GT5 release date. We will just have to wait. Reports came from what I beleive was Official Playstation Magazine UK. Don't quote me though, just a rumor.
A game this big would be released simultaneously everywhere or very close to it, no?

Sony might want to keep it away from MW in America and FF in Europe.
Who knows.
Does anyone else think that this could only be in the UK this Xmas because the UK might not get a price cut like the rest of the world this fall due to exchange rates?

Actually it is:
10/11 Modern Warfare 2
20/11 Assassin's Creed 2
27/11 Gran Turismo 5
4/12 Uncharted 2: Among Theives (possibly)
That is a little busy for me...

Wait let's see. I'll assume the 27th is a Friday and since America is allergic to Fridays they will get it on the 24th
making the US list look like this
3/11 - Bioshock 2
10/11 - Modern Warfare 2
17/11 - Assassin's Creed 2
24/11 - Gran Turismo 5
then I go on drooling:
20/10 - Splinter Cell Conviction
27/10 - Uncharted 2
and you've got 6 weeks of utter destruction
As a comparison,
GT4 was released in Japan in January 2005, North America February 2005 and Europe March 2005.
GT3 was released in Japan April 2001 and in North America/Europe July 2001.
