I am a huge gaming fan, and even I read the gaming news more than I play the games. I didn't even know about Mass Effect until late 2008, when the game was recommended to me. The game also devalued very quickly. 2 Million copies solid is a good reception to me, but not great. Take Tekken 5 for instance...that was a great game, but sold like shit. Tekken 6 will most likely sell two fold what that game sold. The hype of how good Tekken 5 was and how Tekken 6 is an improvement will definitely help the sales. |
Well most games that sell 2 million copies, especially new IPs, are considered a success. They also aren't traditionally referred to as going unnoticed. Considering that Mass Effect is also Bioware's highest selling RPG on an Xbox platform, since I don't have PC sales to go by, it should be considered a success based on that alone.
Regarding Tekken 5, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. It sold 3.66 million on PS2 alone. No fighting game this current generation outside of Smash Bros. Brawl has even gotten close to it's sales. How exactly is Tekken 6 supposed to break 7.3 million in sales("two fold", your words) when Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, and Soul Calibur can't do it combined or even approach Tekken 5's sales?
I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make, but you seem to be a bit delusional in regards to sales.
