I think this game is a prime example of why art direction trumps technical prowess where graphics are concerned. The DS version of FFIV is clearly superior from a technical standpoint, but the art direction has turned off a lot of FFIV fans who would prefer the 2D SNES or GBA versions.

I agree with the art is not as good as in the old days. The characters look like members of a fetish club.
