Forums - Sony - Activision threatens to "stop supporting" Sony consoles.

i know, just nice to discuss these things with you. in terms of ps3 becoming dominant in the end i think it will be all about price.. as an extreme hypothetical example, if they were to cut prices to $50 they would become the #1 console overnight (pending hardware inventory constraints). in terms of the hardware itself there's no arguing its superior performance (blu-ray is a separate argument). everyone knows prices will come down at some point in the future, just a matter of who acts first, how the others respond, and when

maybe a more relevant, or at least more interesting, discussion to have is which console you'd choose if they all cost the same, both as standalone systems and then considering relevant game titles

I think the PS3 would need more than a $50 price cut.

To answer your question...

If all three consoles were $250 and released on the same launch date with its respective launch games available...that would be a really tough choice to make. I would eventually get all three, but it would be really hard to select which to buy first.

But I Can say that most would have selected the PS3 under those circumstances. The PS3 would be the undisputed victor IF those circumstances existed.

One thing that is interesting in this situation is how it could (very well) be a defining moment in the generation because, depending on Sony's action now, Activisions reaction will likely influence how things turn out to be in line with their expectations based on Sony's action ...

Essentially, if Sony reduces the price then Activision will expect the PS3 and PSP to continue to be viable platforms and will support them; and because Activision continues to support them the PS3 and PSP will continue to be viable platforms. In contrast, if Sony maintains the price of the PS3 Activision will expect the PS3 to continue struggling and to see a drop in support from other third party publishers, and Activision will lower support for the PS3; this will result in consumers seeing less value in the PS3 and other third party publishers losing confidence in the PS3, the system will continue to struggle and will lose support, which will match Activision's expectations.

i dont know. for me this doesnt make any sense. and if i am correct isnt the ps3 being outsold by the 360 for only 10 to 20k during the lasts weeks? i mean is not like the ps3 is selling so much less. maybe they are just traying to pressure SONY to cut the price?.

Look at the total number of 360s and total number of PS3s...

You should probably also compare the total software sales for each platform....when you also consider development costs...things may become a little more clear...just a smidge.

I think several developers expected PS3 to be outselling 360 at this point, and they invested resources to reflect that trend.  Many develoeprs have stated that it takes more people to work on developing for the PS3 as compared to the 360...that equates to MONEY...if you are spending mor eto support PS3 development, and you are selling less game, for whatever reason, and you HAVE to sell the games for the same amount as the 360...hmmmm...that might be what he is talking about - ROI is the key.

i know, but thats still no reason to stop completely developing games for the ps3. my opinion is that is a drastic chioce. is not like the ps3 is in a terrible position, thats not the situation either. sure the ps3 might be behind the others but is not doing like awful to stop developing for the console. and why are they stoping psp development too?. i dont know i just think that is to drastic thats all. i believe that they said that to pressure SONY to cut the price of the console but is a lie.
