Forums - Sony - Rumor: Sony to acquire new 2nd party developer

This rumor should be taken like a grain of salt or maybe a little bit bigger. Just like before E3, a couple of Twitter pages are showing a high-level of reports about Sony acquiring a new 2nd party developer. They are apparently skilled in the art of RPG development and it’ll surprise us. Level-5? NIS? Atlus? Could be anyone at this point.

According to GamesBlow: "The last word I can speak of this is - The agreement has been reached. It will not effect "current" titles in development."

On deck isGameKnows: “About Newest Sony acquisition: the company have some great RPGs. And expect something surprising...”

Take it as a rumor and nothing more at this point. If true, we’ll know more shortly. We know it won't be Square Enix or any real major players if this becomes true.

LOL. Remember the rumor before WKC released. "if wkc sells well then l5 will let sony aquire them"

I know insomniac, sucker punch, as well as (the studio that makes gow)

i don't see it being level 5. they make alot of money on the ds

eat sleep play, insomniac, sucker punch

I'd take this with a HUGE grain of salt.

As for a developer with a taste for RPGs, Level 5 seems like the obvious choice, but that would make little sense given their recent moves towards independent publishing (Prof. Layton, Inazuma Eleven), and their great relationship with Square. In reality, the games they've worked on with Sony are the worst sellers, excluding Inazuma.

If Sony were to buy Level 5, however, I'd hope they'd force them to actually polish their games, and help them to write a decent story line. Compared to other internal studios, they'd be by far Sony's weakest link.

If this rumor wasn't restricted to just developers that focus on RPGs, Media Molecule would be the obvious choice. I do not doubt that they will be acquired at some point in the future.

I would not be surprised if these amateur blogs are just taking thet rumor and brining it back to life for hits.

this makes no sense. Sony doesnt need to buy a second party studio unless they want them to be 1st party.

hmmmm.....Atlus?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

If you look further down on the first link it says: "Sony is in a final stage agreement with a top player in the industry... As I said, the news will break soon." and "It could very well be the biggest feather in Sony's cap yet. An instant console victory we feel if everything goes down as outlined."

It also says it isn't Square so I have no idea who it could be. Of course, this could all be bullshit.
