That's false. MGS has never been about genre defining gameplay, instead it was, and is, always about the innovative and cool "oh snap!" moments of gameplay. Such as, interesting boss battles, most of which are NOT stealth based. Remember Psycho Mantis? That is what MGS is about. Not hiding in tall grass.

I'm not too worried, because:
1. I like hack n' slash games.
2. It's being made by Kojima Productions. They only do good work.
3. A hack n' slash with the over the top style of MGS would own
4. Raiden was a badass in MGS4. Letting me control that badassery would own.
And its a spin-off. If this was actually MGS5, I'd probably be a bit miffed that they changed the formula so drastically. Hopefully this will leave room for a true MGS5 (not a PSP game) in the future. And besides, we thought the series was over with 4. More is always better.
It'l still be a great game, not in God of War's league though.

You obviously haven't played MGO with the expansions then. Controlling Raiden in it atleast, is a pain in the ass.

Devil May Cry 1 is vastly superior to every God of War title. You should use that game as your point of reference from now on.
In fact, God of War, as admitted by Jaffe, would have never existed in its current form, without the invention of the 3D "stylish action" subgenre, that was DMC.
Hack and Slash could be a completely different type of game than GoW. It could mean a game more like Infamous, as far as that goes. Linear, stylish, puzzle solving, combo based, orb collecting, RPG esque gameplay is NOT always "hack and slash," imo. The main genre is "action."
