Forums - Gaming - Predictions for Next Gen Gaming

Summary:

SONY will continue to lose money. Wii and Xbox will compete for the casual market.

Microsoft will take advantage of it's various divisions and develop a simple, cheap user friendly device.

SONY will try to take advantage of it's  but due to some of the companies cultural problems, will fail to integrate their technologies, and continue to lose money.

Possible push towards further integration between console and handheld?

iPhone gaming sales will continue to be a factor. Competing devices will show up forcing DS and PSP to either become cheaper or provide additional features.

Future PSPs stream content from your PS3 via WiFi.

MS, possible Zune / Xbox links similar to PS3 and PSP.

Sony vs. Xbox vs. Nintendo consoles

Nintendo only needs to continue with what they're doing in order to succeed. Entertainment at an affordable price. They will likely have a console with adequeate 3D support with an endless supply of motion control features.

MS Xbox, to go the way of the Wii... but provide an integrated PC/ Gaming solution. More websites like Facebook and other online media will be integrated into the Xbox. Which for many people, will provide all the benefits of a PC, with the addition of the gaming features provided by the Wii.

Also access to online office with a standard keyboard/pad. May also provide access to online photoshop/ premier  and use motion capture to catch the movements of a pen for drawing etc... Trend towards Netbooks/ xbox as a standard for homes.

Focus on low cost game development integrated with features such as motion, as well as support for 3D and HD games.

i.e. Games might look worse on a newer Xbox compared to a newer Playstation, but it will be cheaper, more accessible, and have features which make it a better choice for most consumers and will have a much greater portion of the market.

SONY PS3 decides to throw more money away, and develops an even costlier Playstation.

Dual Cell?

Developed to generate the best 3D video and gaming experience in highest def.

Sony will continue to lose money, but provide a console for the best gaming entertainment.

However, it will suffer since game developers will need to spend more to make games for this console which will not have as great a market share, and high develpment costs will limit the amount of games that will take advantage of all the features.

So no matter what happens Sony will lose money is that what u are saying?

Maybe we should wait at least until the announcement of the next-gen consoles, before we declare them to be exaggerated versions of their this-gen equivalents.

I hope we have some surprises nobody saw coming.

lol Sonys not going to make the same mistake twice, and Sonys going to be racking in the money soon with the PS3, I'd say by the end of the year the PS3 will be profitable.

The PS4 will be cheap and slightly upgraded from the PS3, I'd say it'll be a PS3.5, slightly upgraded cell (it's already still so powerful it's just limited by the PS3's memory, they probably can use the cell for the PS4 and everything will be good), more memory and a good GPU. They'll likely go back to there traditional 299 launch price and lose money for about a year but after that they'll be bringing in the cash. They'll likely add some kind of new thing to gaming in it, god knows what. But obviously the PS4 won't be a huge jump in graphics like the PS2 and PS3 was.

But it will be a huge success and I'm wiling to bet it'll be the number 1 console for the next generation.

wow, the OP seems a little biased there. You don't think sony is capable of learning from their mistakes I take it?

I think the next nintendo console will try to reinvent the wheel again.  It will use motion tech in conjuction with something else you wouldn't ever think about

Microsoft will completely embrace digital distribution and use zune/xbox integration to push the zune platform forward, both as a music player and a handheld gaming device.

Sony will learn their lesson and release something cheaper to make (something I see all 3 companies doing) and will also embrace digital distribution.  I also think Sony will include some kind of cloud computing service for long term potential.  (basically their next system will be their last because they won't need to ever improve the specs because all the processing will be done on the cloud servers.)

Overall, next gen, I see all 3 being even more equal than they are this gen.

This will get a lot of Sony fanboys pissed. I think Microsoft will be 2nd next gen, not first. Nintendo will forever be first, and Sony last.

i think nintendo will finally embrace HD graphics, hard drives, and try a little harder to cater to hardcore gamers, while still keeping a firm grip on the casual market. they will also make a new, far better remote with near perfect motion sensing, as well as possibly a NATAL/PS eye type camera. this is all just speculation though.

i personaly think that if nintendo did at leats the first three of my predictions, they will continue to dominate the market.

Apparently, Sony is completely incapable of learning from their mistakes. We see this all the time in press conferences and with the lack of price cuts.

Sony won't learn anything. They'll continue down this path of madness and finally end up having to discontinue the PlayStation line.
