Forums - Nintendo - So why do we get Wii Fit plus / Mario Galaxy but no new Mario Kart?

The main issue with your argument is this: Mario Kart Wii is a multiplayer game, in fact it's even an online multiplayer game with endless replayability while Super Mario Galaxy is a one player game as is Wii Fit, both of which are being improved upon/added to with their respective follow ups.

This is why you won't see a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii either, they're both enough for the one generation.

Another thing is the Wii Fit you know now will not be sold any more once Fit Plus hits. Wii Fit Plus w/Balance Board is going to replace Wii Fit and the Wii Fit Plus software will also be made available to those that bought the original. A few people have been confused with that so I thought I'd clarify :P

Call of Duty is essentially a mulitplayer game but that doesn't stop them releasing a new one every year.

Thanks for clarifying the Wii Fit tho

Actually, one Mario platformer a gen has kind of been an aberation. That wasn't how it was with Nintendo's really successful consoles the NES, SNES, original Gameboy. They all had more than one original Mario platformer, so it doesn't surprise me that the Wii is going to as well.

However, each of the Mario platformers can have new storylines to hinge their gameplay upon while I think a kart racer is more limited in that respect.

I think Nintendo could put another Mario Kart game on Wii but I wouldn't expect it until later in the gen when the first one's sales have either cooled off or they can make some significant improvement over the first which might not be possible until their next console.

One possible reason they could be gearing up to release two new Mario platformers though could be because they think that people that enjoyed Mario Kart will also be willing to pick up the new Mario platformers. And Mario Kart Wii's success could be a big part of why New Super Mario 2 features competitive multiplayer gameplay and the ability to skip difficult parts.

Galaxy gets a sequel because its the best Nintendo game in a decade, don't complain.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

That's also why in 20 years nobody will know what Call of Duty is but everybody will love the newly released Super Mario Kart Grand Prix!!

Nintendo are good at making sure their franchises last many years more than those of their competitors.

They make sequels to games they can improve and do new things with. They significantly improved Wii Fit Plus over the original, and Galaxy 2 they already stated that they felt they hadn't fully explored the galaxy theme (i don't have a link sorry).

Mario Kart Wii has already explored everything you can do with it other than brand new courses (which would rock) but doesn't really add to the gameplay or bring it to owners of a new console. Honestly, I'm happy with how MKWii is and would much rather them spend the development time elsewhere.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

The real question is, why do we get Wii Fit Plus/Mario Galaxy 2/Metroi :TOM (#2)/ NSMBWii (#2), but none of the other IPs?

I'm anxious to see them.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

^ because Nintendo need to appease the core. Galaxy sold a shit load so they make a sequel. Same answer for everything else.

Maybe Ninty think the only core game they make is Metriod, i dk. They could have atleast tried with Disaster but they fu---ed that too.

Yeah I think this is the correct answer. Wii Fit, while a good title, had a lot that could be improved and a lot of important features missing. Super Mario Galaxy is no longer selling that much, and Miyamoto has said there were ideas left from its development.

Wii Fit is a new idea that can be expanded upon with WM+

Mario Kart doesn't really need changing, so there is no reason to have more than 1 iteration per console.

Oh, Wii Fit Plus will use WM+? I guess it makes sense considering the name, but I didn't know that.
