Patrick Kane has reportedly been arrested for assaulting a cabbie in Buffalo. He allegedly took back his fare and punched the man after he didn't get the 20 cents in change he was owed. Kane, as you might remember, is a multimillionaire.

The Blackhawks are officially snakebitten.

it's strange that he decided to assault the guy over 20 cents....when he's gonna make more than 3$ million in the 09-10 season (btw he & his cousin, who was with him at the time, have been charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services)

Big Bert back to the Wings (pending a physical) 1 year, 1.5 million.

He played all right in Calgary, but he still takes too many needless penalties.....not good for a team like Detroit with an atrocious PK. Maybe Lidstrom will be able to talk some sense into him or something.

Felony dropped. Also, the cabbie might not want to pursue this one all that much or risk having to file as a sex offender. Even the cabbies lawyer said it's been blown out of proportion.

Looking at the sequence of events, it seems likely that they were offered a payoff if they played the incident down.

Or the lawyer knows its illegal to physically restrain someone.... Which... locking them in the cab is exactly that.

There is no physical restraint being applied by the cabbie............that would imply that he was directly holding them, with his arms or his legs.

Buffalo cabbies have always locked younger riders (typically students) in the back until they pay, to prevent fare-hopping.

Making them not be able to leave is illegal. Saying "Get down on the ground" is unlawful arrest, which, in NY you have to file as a sex offender.

In case some of you missed this earlier - Marleau got stripped of being the Captain for the Sharks along with Thornton being stripped of the Assistant Captain

Source - http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Marleau-stripped-of-captaincy-by-the-Sharks?urn=nhl,183427

The other assistant captain position wasn't being filled at the time (it usually alternated between players...last time being Grier who didn't get resigned). No replacements as of yet

That is one of the weirdest things that I have ever heard.

And Thornton being stripped of the A was something that I didn't hear about...looks like a leadership overhaul in SJ.

Me too. I was shocked to find it out. The way I found out was... there is this facebook application "Find how many sex offenders live in your area" and there was a insane amount of sex offenders in the area I live in when my friend did this (He did the thing but I live in the same area) Then I commented on it saying

"Yeah, but how many of these guys are on the registry because of a stupid mistake like flashing, mooning, or streaking. How many people got convicted of rape because they were a year older than their girlfriends and they had sex. I'm all for pointing out the child molesters, creeps, and weirdos but the registry doesn't tell you why they are on there."

Then someone responded with "You aren't put on the sex offender list if you moon or flash"

So I did my research. You can indeed be put on the registry for those offense. I googled "Sex registry offenses" and came up with this NY list. http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/sortab1.htm Now... I don't live in NY but I'm sure it wont differ that much. Notice 6 of those are misdemeanor... Sexual misconduct is one of those which "Indecent exposure" would be considered. Anyway, there is also

135.053 A Misdemeanor unlawful imprisonment in the second degree

But now that I look closer the victim needs to be less than 17 to file as a sex offender.

A quick google search of "What is unlawful imprisonment" defines it as...

Unlawful imprisonment.

(1) A person is guilty of unlawful imprisonment if he knowingly restrains another person.

     (2) Unlawful imprisonment is a class C felony.

The definition of restrain is.... "3 : to deprive of liberty"

So... the events happened like this... from what I can tell from the cabbie who was interviewed on a Chicago radio station. Kane paid. The cab driver said he didn't have the change. Kane got mad and the cab driver wouldn't unlock the door. (BTW he was being pretty in-coherent and mumbling through his story) Kane attacked him.

So, I doubt the cab driver will push this more than the hush money already paid. Probablly not the amount he was expecting to get. If he does Kane can press charges and draw it out. Which I doubt anyone would want.
