Didn't the Islanders also sign Dwayne Roloson? Seems like Dipietro is sorta the odd man out regardless of his contract.

WTF - Hossa is injured...

They did sign Roloson, but I assumed it was insurance in case Dipietro was injured and couldn't start the season, or got injured early in the season. With them signing Biron though, to me it looks like they don't think that Dipietro will be back any time soon.

I don't think he's the odd one out though - in my opinion Biron is a "just in case" kinda guy, for this season only. He can play 35 games or so (assuming Dipietro is really out), to make sure Roloson isn't overworked like he was in Edmonton. If Rick's career is over, then they can go after someone else next season, while Roloson becomes the backup or the Islanders can have him finish out his contract as the starter and go in another direction after that season.

Some rumors state that he might be out till December - not exactly the best start to a 12 year contract......

The puck headlines from this morning on the Puck Daddy Blog stated that the Blackhawks knew he was injured when they signed him.

ah, gotta love that blog.

Gotta kinda feel sorry for Rick Dipietro, he's played 7 sevens in the NHL and only played more than 60 games in 3 seasons. All those injuries make that 15 year 60+ million contract look like a massive blunder for the Islanders. Think Dipietro has had 3 surguries in the past year. At least now he has a full year to heal

It's great, i read it religiously everyday. You should look up some of their older photoshop competitions (they had one awhile back where they had users send in photoshopped pictures of Garry Bettman posing in a heroic manner)
