David Cage has said that he doesn't want death to be the end in the game.  BUT you are put in multiple situations where you will die if you do not push the right buttons.  Normally, he says, you would finish the story with the other characters.

However, what if you kill off all 4 characters in the game?  Unless there is one character that cannot die, then death is equally as much a concern as it always is.  On the other hand, I don't know if I would care for a game that you could fail every challenge and still win.  What will they think of next?  Games that play themselves? 

On the other hand, maybe there is a secret character - the killer - and if you kill your other characters off, you play as the killer till you are caught.

I believe he said that if you kill off all four the game's story will finish, it just won't be a very good ending. It's like getting the crappy ending in a JRPG, except this replaces what would be the "game over" screen.

Well, that makes the most sense. Still, there should be an easter egg that lets you play as the killer. On the other hand, if it were that way, how many people would instantly kill the protagonists just to play as the killer? Oh well...
