BUT. the last one was nearly a year ago... I'm sure they can afford another by Xmas...

If Sony can afford a price cut then I am pretty sure MS can.

Lets face it.. MS can afford a price drop MORE than Sony can.. so again I ask.. why wouldnt they?

But Sony's last price cut will be 2 years ago this winter.

I don't think MS can afford to drop the price of the arcade model this year, simply because it is already so cheap. Unless they are willing to make a loss on each console sold.

I think its a possibility that the PS3 could eventually take the lead in others but not by the end of the year, especially since GT5 IS NOT going to be coming out in my opinion. They would have announced it during E3 if so. TGS is simply too late to announce it for this year, I'm thinking we'll see it next spring perhaps. Worldwide I think the race is over personally. PS3 will never be able to close that NA gap and thats whats making all the difference.

They got money :)

the xbos havent had big hitters so far this year and is still outselling sony on a weekly basis.

Ps3 has had some huge games! Etc

Role on masseffect, halo, forza

Of course MS is willing to make a loss on each system

how well sony sell the ps3 largly depends on european pricing if there is a 100 euro/£75 price drop while there is a $100 price drop the ps3 will sell amazingly however i dotn think a smaller drop will make an extremly large impact

And so is Sony, as far as their latest finantials they were still losing money on every ps3 sold in 2009.

In fact losing money on the console in order to gain enough size was a strategy first used by Sony. That's how they steamrolled Nintendo and Sega.

Your point being?

I have no point, I was just answering an above Q

A lot of store is placed on a cheaper PS3 and system sellers like GT5. The problem I foresee is that Microsoft are aware of this cunning plan and have a plan to counter.

I would suggest that the Microsoft counter plan is already unfurling ready for another perfect storm. Last year it was NXE, Price and a solid line up. This year they aim to copy this but will replace NXE with a suite of social integration (that is integration not a web page) and improvements to the movie/media offerings coupled with a strong line up of software and almost certainly an impressive price cut leading into the holiday season.

Will this be enough, I dunno but it would be niave to base your hopes on some cunning Sony plan without fully understanding what the opposition intend to counter. This of course without even mentioning what Nintendo are playing.
