pachters says the that a PS3 price cut of US$50 would cost sony US350,000,000, that is to sell 7,000,000 PS3. Also when talking about the PSP GO's hi price THE Source mentioned that is was hi to subsidize the PS3 price cut.
Asuming they are going to do the price cut in the fall to coincide with the PSP GO launch. This got me thinking how many PSP GO does sony have have to sell to allow them to make the US$100 price cut??
IF sony is making US$15 on every psp 3000 sold and the GO is 249.99, i asume they make US$95 profit on every PSP GO( no one knows if they are making more or less on the PSP GO), so to reach the US$700,000,000 they need to allow a PS3 price drop of US$100 with cero loss, the GO would need to sell 7,368,422 . Sony said they spect a user base up grade of 25% - 30% so the above could be in line with their plans since the current user base is 47.84 millions(accodeing to VGC) and the ~25-30% is 11.9+ million.
With this in mind:
Do you guys think that sony can sell that many PSP GO's before the end of their fiscal year(12 millions in 6 months) and make a PS3 price cut with minimun loses?
i think it wont happen as long as the PSP 3000 is still in the market(becasue the 3k can do everything the PSP GO can), and the only way for this to happen is if sony drops the PSP 3000 if the cosumers are willing to pay those US$249.99.
