Forums - Microsoft - Would MS Xbox consoles have lived without the Halo series?

Halo was and still is crucial for the Xbox brand there is no doubt about it. The original Box had some good games, but that was the big exclusive that made people buy the system. Halo 3 also is the biggest game on the 360

Without Halo 3, 360 would still probably be ahead of PS3 but not much.

Around the Network

Good question.

Probably not is my answer. The GameCube probably would've outpaced the XBox and Microsoft would've canned a successor.

Dead or Alive and Splinter Cell were cool games, but not enough to carry a platform.

Dead or Alive and Splinter Cell were cool, but not enough to carry a platform, I agree.  Dead or Alive, Splinter Cell, Psychonauts, KOTOR, and Ninja Gaiden, on the other hand, may well have been enough.

halo is what made the xbox the must play system and brought many of gamers to the online experience so halo did make 1 big milestone even though i've grown tired of the series

If it wasn't for Halo I doubt the original Xbox would have been a success. To be fair though Microsoft was battling some major competition. The PS2 was selling in record numbers and every Nintendo console is success. The Xbox needed something big to have an edge in the market and that was Halo.

Fortunately for Microsoft this generation, Sony made a ridiculously expensive console.
