That's right.  A new single player FF game would not hit, under any circumstances, before 2012.  Who knows if another single player FF will even hit this gen, given that Versus still has to come out after XIII?

FF XIV, the online game, got its start much earlier, as another game.  At some point, it was decided it would be FF XIV.

The online aspect is the only thing allowing it to be released when it is.

The boost it brings to any console getting it in 2010 will be larger than the boost the console would receive from a single player game 2 years later.  Put another way, Sony or Microsoft would rather have the former than the latter, because the former will benefit them more.

I doubt it just because of the sheer competition MMOs will have next year - Star Wars TOR, DC Universe, The Agency, APB, Champions Online, Star Trek Online (possibly), and of course more WoW will not help. A true FF14 will stand out as a class of its own.

Rest assured FFXV will release this generation, I seriously doubt SE are going to waste that engine without another flagship game. FF Versus is an interesting case though in that it really should release before FFXIV.

Anyways I disagree. Although it's nice to have another Final Fantasy, at the cost of it being an MMO is just not that good. Although SW: The Old Republic looks cool, I won't be getting it while I would have gotten a Knights of the Old Republic 3. I'm sure there are similar feelings on both sides.

Well yes and no. They are made by completely different teams, so one does not really effect the other and I do not consider XIV to be main series as it is online

RPG has a good point. Its also going to compete with Versus 13 (and in some respect still 13) on the PS3 itself if/when it releases in 2010. I really think this will be 2010 for PC but possibly delayed till early 2011 for PS3 (or consoles).

- FFXIV is a PS3 exclusive. If we don't count it as an exclusive, we can't count games like Gears, Mass Effect and World of Goo as exclusive either.

- Rumors don't justify putting this thread anywhere else. Its like if we posted news about Mass Effect 2 threads in the Sony section or MGS4 in the MS section.

So pretty much when I see news on Alan Wake and Mass Effect go into the "Gaming" section, this game belongs right here in the Sony forums.
