Forums - Gaming - The retirement of the traditional controller

NEVER, I dont ever want to lose my traditional controller, ever. If it comes to that then it is back to the PC with the old keyboard and mouse combo

I'm in the same opinion as you, I'm just seeing MS and Sony pushing hard for the casual market, which might leave the traditional gamer with the short end of the stick, as mentioned in my post above this one.

All (yes, every single one available) motion controllers are gimmicks. If gaming resorts to pure motion controls or forcing me to use motion at all, I will stop gaming. Or I'll play classics and classics only. This is why I don't like the Wii. I don't like being forced...give me an option to use it, and I will when I play tennis or boxing. Otherwise, keep your crappy controls to yourself!

BTW, wasnt there a rumor of a breakaway sixaxis?

gim⋅mick

–noun

1. an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratgem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal.

^  I guess you're right.

Btw... the Wii does give you the option to use it.  You also have the option to use a gamecube controller or the classic controller.   This is the natural evolution of gaming.  If you don't change you will be left behind and I hope you don't abandon your hobby out of stubbornness.  In an industry like this things are going to change.  Controls have been the same for a very long time and without change the industry will become stagnant.  This is long overdue and I hope you're prepared.

Just to clarify, I wasn't calling anyone a troll, I was merely posting in response to "Feedback encouraged, trolling is not." - being that I had just learned the real definition of trolling, I thought it would be funny to post that.

Apparantly, I was wrong, and I apologise. I realise, now, that I am in breach of the rules (warnings have that effect), I'll try and keep my somewhat-unfunny urges to myself from now on.

To the thread at hand:

In my opinion, most "core" gamers will be able to pick up and get used to motion controls without the need for "weening" - Nintendo fans have proven this. Core gamers who refuse to like mo-co, in my opinion, are just using it as a fanboyish defence. Like vibration being last generation, and the whole RRoD fiasco.

I think that there are going to be an awful number of hypocrites next generation.

My two pennies.

^^^ No probs, a caption below it might have made all the difference tho, like "You mean, none of this?" =) On point, a good point, regarding Nintendo fans transition, tho I often wonder how many GC fans abandoned ship with the Wii instead of embraced it. Perhaps it is all fanboy defense for the lack of the tech their system has/had.

In retrospect, its kind of silly, thats like a person driving a Scion making fun of a rich person for having a Series 5 instead of a Series 7

I wish I knew what a Scion, Series 5 or a Series 7 even was - from the word "driving" one assumes that they're some kind of automobile.

Any console that exclusively uses motion controls will get 0 support from me, period. I'll go back to exclusive PC gaming. I refuse to jump around or use motion controls for games that have no need to be using it.

That said, I highly doubt SONY or MS will drop traditional controls.

@Samuel - LOL I forget you're on the other side of the pond. Scion - cheap car. Series 5, 7 - models of BMW

This. It's a good thing most Wii games i like support classic controller :), and my upcoming buys such as tastsunoko vs capcom and muramasa do too :)
