I'm on the anti-Superman side, for the most part (until I saw that awesome "Superman is a Dick" website!), but even though Batman has kicked Superman's ass time and time again, in The Dark Knight, and its sequel The Dark Knight Strikes Again, Batman beat Superman (pretty easily in DK2, too!) but didn't kill him.
Now, Gog.....this guy killed Superman in the future and liked it so much that he kept going back in time to before Superman died and killing him again and again!

Superman is overrated, his story makes little sense and they never seem to capture the scope of his powers. Some of them make no sense what-so-ever. For example, in the silver age of comics. They explain that superman get's his powers from earth's low gravity and the intensity of the yellow sun. They also explain if he was in a enviroment similar to krypton or exposed to the radiation of a red sun. He would lose them.
Then they go ahead and say, oh. But he can move faster than the speed of light, which makes traveling to other solar systems and galaxies a breeze.
Wait. What? So, my understanding limits that superman gets his powers from the yellow sun. So long as he is in radiation of said yellow sun. He has superpowers. But then he can go around and hop around from galaxy to galaxy? Right. Oh, and he can breath in space too apparently. That would make it alot easier.
This doesn't make awhole lot of sense. If superman get's his powers from the sun. His range should be very limited to being in the Sol solar system.
That's just silver age. They change it repeatedly in gold, animated, modern age and all that.
At least with batman you know he's powerless and uses gadgets. And at least with goku, well. Goku is kinda a bad example because he's pretty similar on his scope of his powers. But they only go 1 way. Up. He just gets stronger throughout the series, learns new stuff and uses said new stuff.

Yeah so what if Superman let Bruce's parents die, proves that he knows he needs Batman to save his butt, and of course Batman didn't actually kill supes, Batman unlike Superman only killed once, and that was Darkseid, yup it was batman who killed the big bad, not supes. Also in Kingdom Come it was Batman's forces that intervened to prevent full scale devastation after Superman screwed up, Batman always has to clean up supe's messes.

Don't worry true believers. Can't think of anything good for superman to do? Just MAKE STUFF up! Reinvent everything. His classic powers are pretty much gone. He can turn off his powers at will, but that leaves him vunerable like a normal human.
Yeah... let's face it. Superman's old. He was popular sure, in the 50's and 60's. Sure. But let's face it, the thing about pop culture is it's just a series of fads. And all fads die.
