Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Responds To ( Increased Price ) For Halo 3: ODST

The game is probably worth the price that will be charged.
The lesson is that you should not comment on price until the price has been decided.
Not that it will hurt this game's sales one iota.

The following is sarcasm;

When Im not playing Halo 3 online, I play Halo Wars, I will be buying Halo 3 ODST for $60 to continue playing online, and will take a break every once in a while by playing the beta for another FPS; Halo Reach.

It is really enough to make you sick.

... I just hope I can buy Halo slurpies and mountain due when Halo 3 ODST comes out, so the power of sugar and caffeine combined with the marketing power of Halo will be there to nurse me back to health.

with that being said, I am sure ODST will be a .. game, but at $60 that takes me out of the buying equation, but I am the exception.

There is no doubt that this "not an expansion anymore game" will sell millions and millions.

Why do you come off as so upset over this game and it's popularity?

They could charge double that and I'd still pre-order it. I

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Since you asked.

And keep in mind, this is just my opinion here;

I am not SO upset. But it is infact an expansion of Halo 3, there are tons of Halo spinoffs nowadays with more coming, and to me, it seems like the blind acceptance of anything with the name Halo on it just perpetuates a bad cycle that developers will continue to follow through with.

You ask; why am I upset with the popularity of ODST?

are you kidding me, the game hasn't been released yet, and all of you people are just handing over your money already without considering what it is that you are actually buying. People need to wake up. Just because there is a lack of anything better to purchase, does not mean that this "halo game" needs to be purchased.

Where is the compassion, where is the uniqueness of something new. See things for what they are- and this is just something for Microsoft to make money, and to fill the void.

You ask; why am I upset with the "popularity" of ODST

I ask; Why would I not be?

You seem to way overexaggerate the situation.

There has been only 1 Halo spinoff so far, Halo Wars.  Halo: Reach is likely a whole new series going to take off (the Halo universe is immense, by the way).

Also, how is our excitement for this game any different than anyone else's excitement for their favorite franchise getting (insert sequal)?

We are not handing over our money just yet.  The few that have preordered, yes, but not most of us.  If it ends up sucking, we will know by the reviews and make our decision then.  Also, there is no "lack of anything better" as MS has tons of great games coming out both exclusive and multiplat around the same time as Halo 3: ODST.

This is something new.  It is a new campaign with a new story, new main characters, new weapons, new maps, new game mode.  Sure it isn't a "new IP" but very rarely do those come out and be a success.

So in the end I'm not sure where your anger is coming from.  You either didn't understand the situation, with which you should now after I explained it to you, or had a highly exaggerated viewpoint.

If you are so upset about having ~5 Halo games in 8 years, I'd hate to see how you react to the litterally "tons" of Mario and Zelda titles constantly popped out of the Nintendo machine.

Ok, the bolded first.

Released since 2001:  Halo (2001), Halo 2 (2004), Halo 3 (2007), Halo Wars (2009)

Upcoming: Halo 3: ODST (2009), Halo Reach (2010) and maybe Halo 'Chronicles' (currently on indefinite hold).

That would not qualify as tons of spinoffs with more coming.  In fact, only one spin off has been released and it was a big risk because no one knew how a non-FPS Halo game would do.  While it sold well, the numbers are only a FRACTION of the Halo 3 numbers so many Halo fans stayed clear of it (I didn't play it but I liked the demo).  Many other franchises have been milked far more than Halo (God of War will have 4 games released in a span of 5 years) has.

2nd, watching the E3 vids and demos of ODST . . . it might very well be the best Halo story yet.  They are approaching things in a unique way with the flashbacks and an overall mystery to solve.  Also they are doing something very different with the big sandbox city that lets you decide the order to play the various sections.  The length of the game has been expanded upon too so its now a full release and not 'just an expansion'.  Also it has the new Firefight mode which is new to Halo and got very good hands-on comments from those at E3.

So, again, what's your deal?

The maps are brand new.

The 3 new maps that came out with halo wars are different.

Also if the campaign is 10 hours long, and is AAA as usua, price justified

This is the truth.

Halo 3: ODST is worth $60. And Ill buy it.

One spinoff of the game is redicuously high and not exceptable.  Halo Wars is the only spinoff.  ODST is the same story arch but will be a completely different experience, and it's not a spinoff because it expands the story.  Also, combat is going to be tottally different than any other Halo game so they are going in a new direction and trying to not become stale so your "uniqueness" argument is mute.  Also, what company doesn't want to make money?  Every game released is simply for companies to make money so the argument is mute.  There is no reason not to get hyped and pre-order ODST if you love the series because Bungie has yet to dissapoint.  You don't like Halo which is fine but if you want to downplay the series then come up with some good arguments.

Well if the game isn't going to move hardware then Microsoft might as well milk the undoubtably huge software sales for all they're worth.
