Forums - Sales - Did Punch-Out!! disappoint?

Really, when you think about it, it's just a few rings, a dozen or so characters, and some really slick animations. Nintendo probably already made its money back on this game (if they would offer some DLC, I'd download some new characters in a heartbeat!). But Punch-Out!! is a beloved franchise from my childhood. I'm personally disappointed by its sales. I'm sure it'll top 1 million long before it's all said and done, but I really want more people to experience this great game.

PO isn't a sports title. It's a reflex puzzler with a boxing theme.
Reflex puzzlers never do well. Your taking the puzzler market(small) and then making it for the people with reflexes(smaller).

This is a nostalgia game only. Clearly there aren't so many nostalgia fans. This however shows the that the Blue Ocean does work. Mario Kart Wii, Brawl are bridge game. There was never anything in PO to bridge the gamers.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

For example. 500k... :D

yea but thats one source. "some people"

Dude, you asked for a source and I gave you THE source. Stop complaining. ;)

Sales were a bit disappointing, but Nintendo games usually have great legs, so it'll eventually sell over a million I think. I still like the game, but I disappointed they didn't expand on the game. I wanted to be able to play as all the other boxers and I was looking for more hidden boxers as well. Playing with that tiny remote sucks. Going to have to see if the wire remote I have will work with this game.

'gaming till I'm gone'

This game was marketed as a nostalgic return to the NES game. Heck, they even used NES footage in the trailers. That pretty much "dooms" the game in the European market, and probably makes it a niche game for USA.

I can't speak for sales, but the game is the most fun I've had with video games in a while. Stuck on Sandman (Mother of GOD!) and put the controller down since I finally got Majora's Mask on VC, but I'll be going back to Punchout full time after I'm done with MM (and before Conduit) though I do fight some of the fighters I've already beaten, from time to time, to see what I can unlock.

The thread title is misleading I thoght you meant was it a good game but I see its about the sales.

No it did not dissapoint. I didn't expect half of what it got in NA in its 1st week

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

with sales down across the board in the gaming industry, punch out's debut on the wii did pretty good.

Well there are 50m Wiis out there, so 200k (or whatever its at) is pretty awful.

Thats about 1% of all Wii owners that bought that game.

That is a pretty lame argument there.  First, you need to double check your math (it is actually less than 0.5%).

Before you claim this only strengthens your case, I must point out that your argument could be used to make almost any game look horrible.  Take almost any games first or second week sales and then compare it to the install base will almost always result in 'horrible sales'.  Look at Infamous, it must be selling horrible because only 1% (200,000/20,000,000) of PS3 owners bought that game!  UFC for x-box 360 failed too, only 1% of the install base bought that game!.  By your logic I could claim that Halo, Twilight Princess or just about any other succesful game was actually a failure.
