Forums - Sales - Did Punch-Out!! disappoint?

only the biggest nintendo fans claimed this game would sell 1 million. I think 150k is good, but it should sell more due to getting to many tv ads.

Cant wait in a few months for you to be proven wrong. This game is going to have great legs.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It did what I expected in NA, but did way under what I expected in PAL. I guess I overestimated PAL's enjoyment of boxing type games. Which is interesting, because I remember a lot of big boxing fights happening outside of the US.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

But Punch Out is hardly a boxing game... maybe it's the whole NES nostalgia effect that has less weight over here. I can't really say first-hand, because at the time I was a computer guy, but I always was under the impression that the NES had a much lesser importance in Europe than in America and Japan.

If that's true, Others market can be expected to have less sales upfront (mostly core fans), but more or less the same legs after some time (mostly newcomers).

I never saw Punch Out as a big IP, if it hits 1m ltd I'd be surprised. That said, I do still want to pick this game up.

I'm well aware it isn't a boxing game, but it is a boxing game. I loved the NES version, and love the Wii version. And yes, the NES wasn't nearly as popular in PAL. The Master System did way better in the region.

Yes it did. The Source expected that Punch Out would sell upwards of 500,000 its first week and boost Wii sales althought not to 2008 levels. http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=2163896

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
