Forums - Gaming - Why does Rock Band get the most attention from artists?

In light of the Beatles Rock Band and the recent announcement of Green Day DLC, I wonder why Rock Band gets all this attention.

I am a fan of the genre, and I like Rock Band as much as Guitar Hero, but shouldn't the game with the most sales get the most songs??

The bands get a royalty from the developers I assume, thus wouldn't it be more profitable for them to release their songs on the game with the more userbase?  At the very least, release them on both to maximize your profits.

I wish it was a matter of principle, in which the artist chooses the game based on their personal preference, but come on, we all know its business.

Rockband gets much more digital downloads then guitar hero, put it on the software where people buy more.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

Isn't Rock Band made with MTV's help?

EDIT: Yep published by MTV.

That too ^ also most the time guitar hero does disc based additions which do sell, but kinda engulfs their very small download list as well. Rockband of course is following in this, but there collection is massive and still manages to sell. I wouldn't be surprised If the greenday and beatles you could just download as well instead of couph up for a disk.

Don't forget the Pearl Jam Rock Band game due next year!

In terms of RB getting more content, I can't say that I mind all that much. I much prefer the GH hardware and I just use it for both games.

But that is a catch 22 kind of argument.  It gets more download because it gets more artists.  GH gets like 3 songs per week, and RB gets up to 10.

And GH started the DLC before RB (with GH2 in the Xbox360).

That probably the best answer.  But MTV doesn't own any rights to the songs, and well MTV has very little to do with music nowdays, and definitely very little interest in Rock music.

I assume because it's better, though they're both the exact same to me (and that's probably because I don't actually play the games, just go off of what people are telling me).

Maybe because they don't want to alienate any member of the band by only glorifying the guitarist?

While it goes without a doubt that RB is better than GH, I think that's not the reason, companies would go to the place that sells more, regardless of quality. I think that the reason is that the GH audience is more "casual" in general, thus it's less likely to buy DLC as the more "hardcore" RB audience.

Plus if you compare the sales of GHWT and RB2 in 360 (which is more likely to buy the DLC than the Wii, for example) they're not that different
