Forums - Gaming - Wii, Sony, and MS Statistics

So many peopl say that the majority of games sold on the Wii are developed by Nintendo and 3rd party companies dont stand a chance...

So if we break down the total "million" selling games on each system and pull the percentage out for each studio (Nintendo, MS, and SOE)
We can see how much they reallty take up. So here are the results. These are not based on the "total" amounts sold by each copy. This will only show if the game has sold more than 1 million copies.

Nintendo Wii - 50 titles at 1 million+ 18 or them are Nintendo - (36% of million+ titels are made by Nintendo)

Xbox36 - 64 titels at 1 million+ 12 of them are Microsoft - (18.75% of million+ titles are made by Microsoft)

Playstaion 3 - 31 titles at 1 million+ 9 of them are SOE - (29.03% of million+ titles are made by SOE)

So hopefully this will show people that Nintendo is not the only company making money off of title sells on the Wii.
Sony is right up there in million percentage titles sold... they just dont sell as many copies as Nintendo.

Why wouldn't you just take all the game sales and see what percentage of the sales are by a given company?

Interesting. What were the primary genres of the 3rd party games?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I wanted to just show the million plus selling games, not the total amount of games sold by each studio.

Also, if you went by TOTAL millions sold, Nintendo would have a much bigger portion of the cake.

That is why I just went with million sellers. It isnt the amount of the games that I was intrested in sharing, it was the fact that nintendo as a developer wasnt the only company selling millions of copies of games, and that Nintendo isnt the only developer making money.

ok so what kind of consoles are Sony and MS?
or is the wii a company?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Want the real statistics? Here we go.

Go to the total, WorldWide. Search console and company, and you get the total sold. Simple as that (Ioi finally added it! Yay!)

Then, check the total SW sold.

I'll do it for you this time.

First party sold:

X360: 47.7M

Ps3: 30.15M

Wii: 169.9M

Total sold:

X360: 231.91M

Ps3: 134.66M

Wii: 302.85M

Percentage first party:

X360: 20.5%

Ps3: 22.3%

Wii:  56.1%

Note: VGChartz data isn't complete, and is far more complete among the first party datas. Thus, the number here is a bit too high on all the consoles.

What did you prove with this? You just confirmed Nintendo has the most million sellers on the Wii and student is right, if you took in millions sold nintendo would be dominating the third party (probably over 50% of total sales.)

Are you talking to the OP, or me?

Essentially, what I attempted to do was just to actually use the correct numbers. And his were in fact rather far off. 36% vs ~ 50% and

29% vs ~ 20% isn't very close.

If you're just interested in who comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the OPs inaccurate way works fine, but it won't get you anywhere near the numbers you need to make a comparison or analysis.
