Forums - Nintendo - Where are all of Nintendo's games hiding?

Lets sort this out shall we.

Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development (which includes Nintendo Research & Development 1 and Nintendo Research & Development 2)

EAD Group 1 -

Previous Games: Luigi's Mansion, Nintendogs & GC/DS/Wii iterations of Mario Kart.
Current Project: Unknown

EAD Group 2 -

Previous Games: Animal Crossing, AC: Wild World, AC: City Folk, Wii Sports/Music/Fit/Chess/Play
Current Project: Wii Fit Plus, probably another Wii series game if they continue with a yearly release of Wii series and/or groundwork for next gen AC

EAD Group 3 -

Previous Games: Legend of Zelda: MM through to Link's Crossbow Training
Current Project: Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, Legend of Zelda Wii

EAD Group 4 -

Previous Games: Yoshi Touch and Go, Big Brain Academy, New Super Mario Bros.
Current Project: New Super Mario Bros Wii

EAD Tokyo -

Previous Games: Super Mario Galaxy
Current Project: Super Mario Galaxy 2

So thats four out of 5 of Nintendo's main internal studios accounted for. What else?

Nintendo Software Planning & Development: currently structured into 4 groups. SPD Production Group 1 is assiting on Metroid Other M, while Groups 2 & 3 are unknown. SPD Production Group 4 has been responsible for some of the Wii channels not games (so far).

Brownie Brown - Unknown
NST - Unknown (although they have done the recent Mario Vs Donkey Kong 3 on DSiWare so they may be quiet for a while)
Monolith Soft - Monado: Beginning of the World
Sora Ltd - Unknown
Retro Studios - Metroid Prime Trilogy, another project in works talked up by Reggie
Intelligent Systems - Unknown

So thats 5 Studio's (Retro Studios/IS/Brownie Brown/Sora/NST) and logically 5 games that are hiding from us. If you include EAD Group 1 then we have a potential of 6 games in hiding from us from first party. If ypu include Software Planning & Development (groups 2&3 which are unaccounted for) then we have 8 potential games. I would do second party now but I'm out of time.

Here

So according to that 11 of the 25 internal studios/2nd parties have known projects while the others are working on unknown projects for Nintendo. That makes 14 unknown projects, Most of the studios from the bigger known Retro to the lesser known NDCube have all confirmed they are hard at work on Wii projects.

Considering most of these studios have been silent since 2007, we can assume that in two years each studio could have produced at least one if not two games a piece. Since Nintendo has announced their fall line up that gives each studio an additional year to keep working on these unknown projects.

Plus studios like EAD 5, and EAD 2 can pump out a new WiiFit and WiiSports with little to no resources actually being used. If you think about it those cheaply developed titles can be cranked out far faster then Nintendo is cranking them out. The only reason WiiSports:Resort was delayed was Nintendo was waiting for the third parties to develope some things for the WiiMotion+ before launching it. So technically even EAD 2 which has had a year to begin work on the next big casual game must have an unknown project in the works. My bet is EAD 5 & 2 probubly are hard at work on new Vitality Sensor games. But then again they could be developing hardcore projects on the side considering it is fairly cheap and doesn't require all that big of a dev team to keep churning out WiiSports/Play/Fit titles, they could easily have hardcore projects on the side.

So the question remains, when will Nintendo finally show us these minimum of 14 titles? Are all the studios working on current Generation hardware or could Nintendo have already begun internal development for the Wii2?

Think about it a second, each studio having up to 3 years of development on unknown internal projects, we should be seeing alot more then the few games Nintendo showed off at E3.

For everyone talking about Sora, Iwata said when he revealed that team that it was a new IP in the form of something they would not normally do and were taking a risk on. I think this will be a hardcore game personally. And I am pretty sure it is a new IP as well. I just want to quash any of the Smash Bros rumors.

Now Playing: The Witcher (PC)

Consoles Owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, Game Boy, DS

Well, they have enough games coming and games are NOT made in a YEAR, lot of games already released this year and last year on Wii and/or DS

New Super MarioBros Wii
MarioGalaxy 2
WiiFitPlus
Legend Of Zelda Spirit Tracks
Wii Sports Resort

You just forgot :
Monado
Sin's & Punishment 2
Span Smasher
Dynamic Slash
Line Action Heroes
Endless Ocean 2
Mario vs DK 3
Pikmin Wii
Zelda Wii
...

So just stop thinking to much and play those games 1st

Hey OP check out my thread on this matter here: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=60592

There's a Nintendo EAD studio working together with team ninja to make metroid: other M
So, it is being made by first party developer.

Do you really think they just give the metroid franchise to a 3rd party developer that haven't made any AAA games so far on metacritic.

No samus it isnt an EAD team, it's SPD PG1 - The handheld Metroid team.

It is however a second party effort as that team along with Team Ninja merged to create 'Project M' which is itself a licenced second party for as long as they are making Metroid: Other M

we need EAD 1 and retro which will be the most interetsing projects i believe

It will be interesting to see what Retro has up their sleeve. I'm also looking forward to seeing most of these 14 unknown projects soon, hopefully Nintendo is still working on this generation if I found out those 14 games were mostly next generation games I'd die alittle inside untill of course the next generation begins then I'd be hyped as hell

@ Puffy

Many of those projects listed on that list are rumoured and remain in reality unknown. Like the DS2 titles for example, we know the new DS should be coming any year now since the average Nintendo console life cycle lasts about five years. According to the five year life cycle we should have seen a new DS this year. Also according to that life cycle we should see a new Wii by 2011.

If the next generation starting with the new DS are expected within 2010/2011. It does make sense that many of the unknown products given up to three years in developement could be headed for the next generation. Usually Nintendo launches with only a few first party titles. Maybe Nintendo wants to change that and role out a huge launch this new generation.

Plus everyone must realize the next handheld generation has begun with the PSPGo Nintendo is bound to answer with their new handheld in the foreseeable future!
