Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Should Stop Taking Jabs At Gran Turismo

VGChartz forum members should stop creating so damn many Turn 10/Forza 3 threads.

Yawn, more axe-grinding.

Since you're clearly such an expert on the subject, though, please explain to me the intense realism behind uncrashable cars.

This is something debatetable. It's gonna be long and I don't have time to go into it right now.

There is no driving sim out there can replicate the real driving situation.

One of the most important aspect that driving sim can teach is to be consistent with the perfect driving line, and the ability to learn the tracks without being there.

No, I'm afraid there's no debate to be had.  I'd say that the most important aspect of high-speed car racing, especially on twisty road courses, is pretty much NOT DYING.  I don't care how perfectly the courses are recreated, because let's face it, 99% of the players will never have a chance to drive on any of those courses.

It's quite simple:  a car racing game with no collisions and no car damage is not realistic.  That's it.  That doesn't make it wrong to like Gran Turismo, if you think it's a fun game, more power to you.  I'm just sick of reading fanboys call Forza "laughable" when compared to the "ultimate realism" of Gran Turismo when Gran Turismo is only slightly more realistic than, say...  Dead Rising.

Edit:

@ Filabrasiliero -  I quoted your post and typed a long reply, but apparently it didn't get posted, so you'll have to settle for this abridged version, sorry.

Obviously the physics of how a car handles is important, but the fundamental building block of physics is the manner in which solid objects interact when they collide.  Any "physics engine" that completely ignores that aspect is not a "physics engine" at all, it is an arcade racing engine of whatever degree of sophistication.  As for the whole thing about precision being important because you are trying to get the best time, go ask Dale Earnhardt Junior if his #1 worry was his dad's time at the Daytona 500 when he crashed into a wall.  I'd imagine he'd be slightly more concerned about the fact that the car was completely destroyed and his dad was killed.

Seems to me that you've danced around the real point:  if you crash IRL, it's pretty much game over for that race (from what I'm hearing), especially if you're trying for a good finish time.  So in terms of realism, you might as well just hit that reset button and not bother with damage physics, realistic or otherwise.  Why bother, when it's just going to tell you "you're done, start over"?  Earnhardt didn't have a reset button, big surprise there.  How long have you been playing video games anyway?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

They're setting themselves up for disappointment when GT5 not only gets better reviews but sells a lot more units.

They should just hope to improve upon Forza 2 and get some good reviews...not beat Gran Turismo.

I am glad they are taking jabs at Gran Turismo, cause it will be even more of a sweet victory when Gran Turismo wipes the floor with Forza 3 in sales.

Unless you want a punk to become your rival, to discuss sales numbers as a measure of anything, and it impacting your feelings, is to end up making Turn 10 to be more than a punk.  Also, will you get depressed when it doesn't hit the sales of Mario Kart Wii?

well your worse as your bringing in a  game completely unrelated to this thread & the OP

What does sales numbers have to do with the quality of a game?  Also, Mario Kart IS a driving game, the top selling driving game actually.  And to get all excited emotionally over sales numbers regarding a game you like, does have immature and fanboyish overtones.

For one, Mario Kart is a driving game but they arent in the same market,  Mario Kart Wii isnt going to steal sales from Gran Turismo and vice versa.  Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 on the other hand, either game can be affected by this.  Because they are both driving simulators games.

As for being a fanboy, and despite having a 360, I have never strayed away from being a Sony Fanboy, but at least I can admit it unlike yourself.

GT5 won't outsell Forza 3, especially in the US. GT5:P sold 650k in the US and Forza 2 sold 2.5 million in the US. Forza 2 almost outsold GT5:P by almost 4-1 in the US.

GT5 WON'T OUTSELL Forza 3.

@y0ungK!d

u sure about that? The sales gap between Forza 2 and prologue is only 1 mil despite Forza 2 greatly outselling prologue in the US and prologue being more closer to a demo rather than a full game.

Currently Watching - Naruto, One Piece

Waiting For - Skyrim, Mass Effect 3

PS3 Trophies

theyve both been doing it, and i still dont care.

my mom isnt a 360, and my dad isnt a ps3.

if the gt team and the forza team, had a shoot out in las vegas, i still wouldnt care

the games will come, i may get both if theyre both good. im still playin gt 4 on ps2, and forza 2 on 360. i prefer midnight club to em both, but with a nice hd tv, driving games are addictive.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Yeah, Forza 2 came out SIX MONTHS AFTER RELEASE. GT5:P came out well after a year, and the ps3 had a MUCH higher install base by then. Forza 3 will outsell GT5. I honestly would be surprised if GT5 outsold Forza 3. Even though the ps2 version sold well, people need to understand the ps3 isn't the ps2. The ps3 version will sell well, but it won't outsell Forza 3. However, Forza 3 probably won't outsell it by much.
