Forums - Microsoft - NATAL is racist - Cannot pick up dark skin

I wonder if it works for Michael Jackson?

I mean he's going to be disappointed if he can't play WITH Milo.

Added a word for accuracy ;) I was gonna post something about MJ too, but decided I didn't want megaman2 flooding my wall posts with hate

I hear Microsoft have it all figured out!

They'll be bundling Natal with this:

And with Natal, it would FINALLY have a home.  I know that is an attempt at humor, but a glove with some buttons would enhance Natal.

NJ you are making several assumptions here against a live demonstration.

Croal was not able to steer his car in Burnout, that is fact, what the cause was is not determined.

Someone posted a link to a scientific report about near infrared sensoring not working as well on dark skin, that is a fact.

Then someone says, I am not sure if Natal is using near infrared, thus we have made a jump to a conclusion that is no longer based on fact. Put everything we have together and it is based on assumptions.

We have a video where several dark skinned people use Natal without trouble. Thus it puts the dark skinned relationship into question. If Natal is using near infrared for their sensoring, has MS already addressed the situation.

Now we have video of Natal stopping working during a live demonstration on Good Morning America. So now we have a case of Natal stopping working for no apparent reason. Perhaps we should correlate that with Croal's case? Perhaps we can assume that Natal has bugs in it since it isn't being released this year. That is a pretty safe assumption to me. What isn't a safe assumption is jumping off the deep end saying that Natal could possible not work for anyone with dark skin.

@JaggedSac: As I said, it could turn out to be a non-issue. Maybe it's something else. My point is that a few videos of black people playing don't prove the system has no trouble at all with black skin (or whatever other problem N' Gai Croal discovered).

@Jagged - They demoed it on Good Morning America and it had an issue?

I hope to hear about this being confirmed or debunked in the next few days.
Whatever the case, I think Natal is a long way off

what is Natal ?

I think its funny how some people try and find ways to shoot the Natal down. Every day a new thread on how Natal is fake or doesn't work (it really is getting old to be honest). If anything this is probably just a simple bug that will require very little effort to fix. And even if it did have major problems, all Microsoft would have to do would be to change cameras. I am certain that if you can use an IR camera to see in the dark there would be no issues adjusting it for black people.

I have seen videos of many different black people using the Natal and they didn't seem to have a problem either (not just Suger Ray and the gang).

A city that's getting a lot of exposure right now.

OT... I hope this isn't anything real, even though I don't have a 360 Natal is interesting (as are all the motion controllers IMHO) and I would like to see what can be done with it.

Of course if this is a valid issue I'm sure MS will find a way around it - they can't change how light frequencies work but they can change the camera and SW doing the job.

It is funny though - particularly due to his connection to the RE5 nonsense for some reason.

And let's face it, this is early tech - the damn thing probably falls over all the time during testing/development right now.

Also, playing a driving game holding air is just plain stupid, and while it's only a test of concept I want any thoughts of really controlling a car in that way killed quickly.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
