Professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne wrote a book and coined the phrase. Instead of fighting directly against your competitors, pick a related market/userbase they don't concentrate on and profit there. Example: Nintendo aims for the non 18-34 year old male market with the DS and Wii.
Wii60
Microsoft coined this soon after the Wii was annouced. Their argument was "why buy a PS3 when for the same cost you could buy a X360 and a Wii?" Brilliant marketing strategy and a good response to a Blue Ocean attempt. If you can't beat 'em, look like you're not competing with them.
HD Era
I have no idea. Probably technophiles assuming everyone would snatch up HDTVs the second they came out.

Microsoft coined this one.
Looks like a few people in Japan bought into the Wii60 concept. Now if Microsoft could only capitalize on that. Hmmm.... Maybe that's partly the thinking in bringing Viva Pinata and Blue Dragon to DS.
Umm. About the Wii not selling out....
Does no one here EVER read Vinnks Village on NeoGAF? He's been saying for WEEKS the Wii hasn't sold out, as he always gives stock levels of about 6-10 stores in his town, and has noted he's always seen 3+ Wiis per store for quite some time which backed up the whole Media Create: Wii >30k awhile ago.
At any rate, I just wonder if H3 will do much of anything there in Japan....Time will tell.
As long as Blue Dragon and VP DS work well when MS brings both sequels to the X360, I'll be happy. Just 2 more reasons for people to buy a DS.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Wii sales during the holidays will be real interesting then. Will they still sell out (in Japan anyway), or will some remain on the shelves?
Guess the real test will be the release of Galaxy, WiiFit, NiGHTS, Brawl (etc). The Wii has been lacking quality games in Japan for a while now.
Same thing happened to the DS in its early life - then Nintendogs, Animal Crossing + Mario Kart hit. It hasn't looked back since.
