Forums - Microsoft - Will Halo: Reach be on the Halo 3 engine?

dcIKeeL said:
I'm pretty sure it won't, seeing as bungie isn't developing this one, they're just kinda overseeing it. Aside from that though, reach isn't part of the trilogy, just part of the universe. I believe they're trying to create a new experience with reach and focus on an entirely different aspect of the halo universe and story.

That being said, it better not run on the same engine, not even an updated one. If that happens this game is gonna be an EPIC FAIL. Halo is awesome but it's a little burned out and is very one sided. Reach will be more balanced, focusing much more on the single player experience while still delivering an addictive enough multiplayer mode.

I believe that's the halo engines' biggest flaw, how unbalanced it is.

What are you talking about?

Engine doesn't make a game balanced. Weapons do. And while Halo 3 tends to have a race for the good weapons every time you spawn(rocket race :) )...it is one of the most balanced multiplayer games available if you know what you are doing

Two things I need you to expand upon.

I did not know that Bungie was not developing this.  Could you provide a link?

Could you expand upon Halo 3 being unbalanced?  I find it to be quite possibly the most balanced multiplayer game out right now.

i think he means unbalanced comparing SP to MP. the amount of work on MP being far greater than the work going into SP.

This is a very good question, as I have not thought of it.

I suppose it will though.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Exactly.

I wasn't knocking halo's MP. It's quite possibly the most dynamic MP this gen and ever, there are so many ways to play it. I mean the game as a whole. Proof of how unbalanced of how unbalanced of a game it is, is the fact that people instantly reacted and compared the multiplayer to the multiplayer and completely forgot about single player. Halo's engine caters so much (and efficiently) to multiplayer that people forget about the single player experience. For multiplayer, the engine is nearly perfect, but for single player it's just ok.

I believe halo reach is an attempt to deliver as memorable a single experience as halo has done with the multiplayer. However, it's not gonna be the complete opposite to halo 3. It'll be an epic SP experience but it will still try to bring the heat on MP.

More akin to halo 1, but it'll differ in it's direction. It's just gonna focus on a diiferent aspect of the halo world, it's gonna look different than the HALO we all know and love. Think of it as every halo game to date having been like Cloverfield 1. The whole story seen through the same persons POV and same camera in similar settings. Whereas reach will be like cloverfield 2, set in the otherside of the world, seen through the lenses of a japanese person. Same world, completely different interpretation.

My mistake btw, Reach is being developed by bungie.

Well talk about redeming yourself... :)

Yeah I agree...but single player is fun nevertheless if you play with 4 people on Legendary. I think Bungie couldn't make it any more single player concetrated and keep 4 player coop intact. All of the story driven single player campaigns are just that...1 player...

I know people are going to hate this opinion, but I think they are going to mimic CoD with this one. They will probably use an experience system that will unlock things the higher you get and it could also be class based. I personally hope that this is not the case as unlockables have a tendency to unbalance things. And class based systems can be very difficult to balance. Lets hope for the best though. Anything Bungie does is great.

i found most of the starting weapons to be as good or better than most you unlock.

As long as I can jump on a buggy...launch myself with the man cannon and quickly dirve down the road and grab that laser before the other team gets to... Its halo.

If I have to camp for 10 minutes because there are snipers around and so I can stick a C5 bomb on some guy walking by...ill be pissed.
