Why did it get locked? Did MikeB request it to be locked after he got the last word in?

probably, the thread wasn't exactly going in the direction he wanted.

Not at all, I probably hit the reply button just before it got locked (without reasoning).

I wanted to adjust a small typo, but couldn't...

BTW here a hands-on second opinion I posted in that thread:

From MTV multiplayer:

"So what was technology and what was a trick? It appeared that Milo’s ability to recognize actual words is completely AWOL at the moment. Former MTVer Stephen Totilo joined me for my meeting, and Stephen’s attempts to interact with Milo resulted in mere quaint smiles and frowns. Molyneux went on to say that players must “train Milo to their voice.” That may be, but based on this demo there’s still a lot of ground to cover."

I think I provide credit where due, in the original E3 Microsoft Natal thread I stated this Natal stuff demoed looked very promising. I posted that thread as it's a lot less advanced at this point than Microsoft wanted us to believe.

With regard to the other stuff shown, I thought it lagged too much and was too inaccurate. I don't see much difference with regard to what Sony has done with Eyetoy/PSeye in the past or showed last and this year with regard to Eyepet:

of course you don't.  how could anything be better than something sony did.  It just isn't possible, never in a million years.

fake or not, the possibility was certainly demonstrated.
It's the vision of the project that makes me all tingly inside (not the boy lol).
So it's not perfect - no big deal. Car companies are not called out as fakes for showing prototype cars at shows, why should it be any different here?
Even the fact that they've got it to respond as well as it does is commendable imo.

Of course it is. I provided a lot of constructive criticism with regard to Sony's Playstation efforts in the past. Also note I own a 1080p Philips HDTV, not a Sony Bravia.

So wait people thought that MS created the most advanced AI ever?  Come on use your heads...

No, but how anyone could claim that this was beyong what science fiction had imagined is extremely disingenuous.

that picture is creepy.

I would say giving someone a kitten as a weapon to defend themselves is creepy, but Milo is more so.

nuh-uh!!!! you could throw the kitten at people...leave a pretty nice scratch..... might get infected....

Ok, this is old news.

We already know that Milo currently just responds to tone and not the actual words, but cmon people! They have only been working with Natal on the Milo project for the last few months! What did you expect? A full 100% working game after a few months?

Oh and no one was "behind the scenes controlling Milo." Everything he did do, was the result of the software programming. I also find it quite hilarious that the majority of people who tested Natal and Milo absolutely loved it and only a few naysayers who expected it to be flawless AI already are the ones disappointed.

As everyone else has said, Natal is likely to come out in 2010 at the earliest. Plenty of time to perfect things.

At least Microsoft showed the advanced things that Natal will be capable of doing, and released something more innovative and interesting than the Sony Wiimote + PS Eye.

Microsoft games exec details how Project Natal was born

VB: How long have you been working on this?

SK: A long time. It’s complex. At Microsoft Research, we’ve had a lot of work going on for a long time. We’ve done a lot of work in natural user interfaces. Voice recognition is one of them. That’s why we have been able to deliver development kits for it this week.

Milo is a lie yo. Konfirmed?
