The futuristic science fiction super armor wearing super soldier?

I guess it sells with their core base so they should stick with it. But its lack of diversity in main protaganists really hurts it's appeal to me.

However Alan Wake is on the horizon!

Hopefully it starts a trend of appealing characters that are not just recycled parts of what they already have.

The original futuristic science fiction super armor wearing super soldier:

(Ok, he's not a space marine, but at least he's an Nazi ass kicking, bad ass, mofo!)

XBLA has DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem but not my other fav Blake Stone and Descent online would be so fun. So many shooters that started PC 3D gaming.

OMG its not just MS... Many devs in general copy the generic Super Solider of super doom...

Fracture, GeOW, Halo, R series, KZ2, Dark Sector, Brett, Army of II, TimeShift, BBC, BBC 2, the conduilt.

Just to name a few current gen games.

Last time I checked...publishers make game that sell...the question isn't why M$ is in love, it's why consumers are in love, since we are the ones who decide...

Yes Publishers make games that sell. However first and foremost Microsoft is a video game console manufacturer. Their main goal is to expand the userbase. Not that it is not expanding (price cuts and such have worked great), but there is more to publishing games when you are the console maker than just selling games.

actually, microsoft is first and foremost a PC software manufacturer. their main goal is to take away from sony's userbase. anyways, if a character is likeable enough, it by itself CAN sell consoles

Yeah but each successive game is going after the same target market. It is not broadening the reach of the platform. It may sell more but if they keep reaching into the same well for water eventually the well is going to dry up in terms of selling them consoles to increase the userbase.

Mario is one character, look at nintendo's other major characters. Mario, Link, Ness, kirby, Samus, and Donkey Kong. None of them are remotely close to eachother in any essence. The Characters in Halo, Gears, and Mass effect all have the same bases for themselves which I described in the OP. MS has other diverse games but in terms of possible mascots for the company they all seem to be pretty much carbon copies of eachother... on second thought MS doesn't realy have any mascots besides Chief and Phoenix. Who else could they use? Or who are some guys that you think they could develop?

WTF are you talking about...first off...

Gears and Mass Effect are not M$ development and characters...second, I'm not sure where you get that all 3 main characters are the same type...what...action characters...and Link, Mario and Donkey aren't...are you kidding me?  Sometimes...I really wonder.

I guess people also forget Microsoft owns the right to Forza,PGR, Crackdown, Banjo, Viva Pinata, Kameo, Perfect Dark, Scene It (to publish not the property itself), and many others that have nothing to do with Giant Space Marines/Soldiers

I could go ethier way with this...So I will do both...

1. What part of Halo sales don't you understand?

2. Why is sony putting so much focus on FPS games now?
