Forums - General - I took the SAT and...

There's one thing I have to mention. First off: CHRIST that was probably the longest and the most boring test in my life X(

Second: I found it quite hard and somewhat painful(especially the math section). Has anyone taken the SAT before? Plese feel free to share your opinion if u want

SATs are meaningless. Everybody your age will talk about it to compare their scores and try to feel better than each other for about a year. Then nobody will ever talk about it again unless you become president.

Wait til you take the GRE, the LSAT, the MCAT or the BAR.  The general GRE isn't that bad, but some of the subject tests can be pretty rough.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It looks like more states are taking the ACT now..... Which is still really hard btw.

I hate the SAT. I took it and I don't even remember what score I got. All I remember was that it's incredibly long and boring, and the fact that the essay is now mandatory made me hate it even more. I got a 32 on my ACT though, and that's good enough for me (though the ACT wasn't much fun either).

It's pretty neat for a couple of years, still, especially if you get a high score.

Have not taken it yet. Not looking foreward to it.

But how do the total population of college bound kids from all those ACT states compare with all the college bound kids in all the SAT states?

I took the SAT and the ACT, and did a bit better in the ACT. You're right, the SAT is a stupidly long test, and the only reason for it is to make you feel test fatigue and mess up as time goes on. Although the ACT was basically just as long, I preferred it because it was knowledge based instead of reason based, and the science and math sections were pretty fun (heck, you could ace the science section if you knew how to read graphs!)

The SAT is a measure of memorization, not intelligence, which i always disliked.

Also the English portions were ridiculous, some of the words they gave you you would see once, for that test, and never do it again. The Math part was reasonable though.

I think i got a 710 in Math and around 600 in English, it's a useless test and should be gotten rid of.

Right now i'm going to be preparing for the GRE, gonna be much worse heh.
