Turn 10 on Forza 3: "No game competes with us"

Forza Motorsport 3 game director Dan Greenwalt is proud of his game. More specifically, he believes that Forza 3 has surpassed all of the competition, most notably Gran Turismo. When asked how Forza is positioned against other racing stalwarts like Need for Speed and Gran Turismo, Greenwalt did not mince words.

"I'm in this industry because of Gran Turismo, let's just be frank," said Greenwalt. He then explained that Gran Turismo inspired his first "stressful" car purchase, a Mitsubishi 3000GT, saying that is was "a great car in that game, and I thought 'Oh my God, if I'm ever going to have a car, that's the car that I want.'" Then things got ugly.

"So, props to Kazunori Yamauchi-san and the PS1 team," said Greenwalt. "That said," he continued, "I feel that he's passed us the baton. Perhaps he hasn't meant to, but we have taken the genre to new levels and they've stopped evolving the genre. So again, tremendous respect to him, but I'd say the differentiator is they're old school." He conclued, "The emperor's naked, and I don't want to, you know, I don't want to slap him around, but no game competes [with] us right now."

A bold claim to make, especially considering that neither Forza 3 nor Gran Turismo 5 have actually released yet. Whenever they do, we're hoping for a good rumble, Sharks vs Jets style.

The entire idea that any game cometes with Forza 3 is ludicrous!

wow that is a bold statement indeed. This thread should be an epic one. 

That guy is quite brazen. The game definitely looks good, but lets see how it plays.

Well its true, Forza 3 >>> Google. Forza 3 has a better race engine.

Driving games are now down to what color paint you like. I challenge ANYONE here to say that Gran Turismo WITH A PS3 CONTROLLER, will have MORE REALISTIC controls than Forza 3 using a 360 CONTROLLER.

And, as far as graphics, things are down to nitpick level at this point.

Hmm, I think that if Gran Turismo doesn't bring it this time, and evolve, it might get surpassed. Forza 3 has nothing but momentum, hype, and proven quality going for it right now. Graphics are pretty much a tie for both games, and Forza is bringing the innovation. GT will have to step up. Let's hope it does.

That's rather arrogant. Maybe when GT5 doubles his sales he will keep his mouth zipped ;)

Facts:

1. Forza has never not been a "AAA" title according to metacritic.

2. The last "AAA" GT title was released in 2001.

Opinions:

1. Didn't damage modeling in other racers, mainly Forza, cause Gran Turismo to adopt this common feature?

2. Doesn't Forza 3 have nearly 5 times more polygons per car than GT5:P?

3. This isn't the first person to claim that GT has been very slow to evolve. How do racing simulators not include damage?

Now, I'm not big on racing sims, and I realize GT is much more popular, but it could be possible that Forza 3 could surpass it in quality.

That said, it is still arrogant to assume that your game is better.

However, the last person who said that was Cliffy B in Gears 2 verses Resistance 2, and we saw how that turned out.

Fact:

1. The game developer probably knows more about it than we do.

Sales have nothing to do with quality sir, unless you would like to tell us how Wii Sports is 20 times better than MGS4.
