Forums - Microsoft - Media going crazy over Project Natal

TT Makaveli said:
this Natal will be like Transformers 2 vs The Godfather...Transformers got awesome special effects and technology (Natal) but is nothing compared to the great ol movies (games with gamepad)!

Natal will maybe sell like crazy but in the end sittin on the couch with a gamepad is the BEST!

Tell that to Rolstoppable

Well firstly Microsoft need something and that something will not be an addon to an existing 360 if they brought out a whole new console from scratch ala Wii then it might sell quite well. I feel Microsoft have lost any thunder they had left this gen and they NEED a new console and fast

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

if so then they wouldn't be selling 140k a week

The media will say anything, they don't know what they are talking about.
I'm not saying Natal won't be huge but the media always blows things out of proportion.

It was because SCEJ wouldn't listen to Phil Harris about Motion/Social gaming, they thought that trends in Japan was the same all around the world. 2 years later Wii came out and eventually Phil Harris resigned to prove his point.

I thought a 1:1 sword fighting game sounded cool until I tried Wii sport resort. The stick fighting wasn't all that fun, had more fun playing table tennis.

The problem with 1:1 sword swing is a real sword has weight as well sword will slow or come to a complete stop when you hit something. I wonder how can someone develop a 1:1 sword fighting game when someone can swing the controller ( or arms  in Natal) around like a madman. It's tough enough to make a descent AI with normal games. I feel sorry for the guy who has to program an AI to handle a gamer swing their controller/arms in all directions.

As far as how you can move your character with Natal , it already been shown how this could work . With Burnout you move your right foot forward for gas , move your foot back to brake. It could be a simple as raise your left arm up to go forward , down to go backward , scratch your head to turn right, grab  your behind to turn your character left. With Burnout they probably could program you jump up to up shift and bend down to down shift.

Project Natal will either be a huge sales hit or be a huge sales bomb. Time will reveal all.

I bet MS is coming out with a new console to launch NATAL with. They just won't announce it yet because that would reduce sales of the x360

Whatever the case is with Natal, it will be HUGE. If they media is creating a buzz from now, it's only a matter of time before most casuals hear of it, and anticipate it's launch.

Depends on which media, much to my shame I haven't payed attention to the media in question. If this is gamers media it will fail. If this is Time, Reader Digest, Womans World, Todays Parent..... then it will work out well.
