Forums - Sales - When do you think Wii Fit sales will surpass PS3?

Well I never said that it would stay above the PS3.

I am predicting it will pass it in early December. I am sure by next year that the PS3 will come back passed it.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Wii fit will pass PS3 when NATAL will pass PS3

i.e. never

Wii Fit outsells the PS3 by about 100k per week.  It is 3 million behind and launched a year+ later.  Why do you think it won't outsell the PS3, do you think that sales will stop for some reason?

Be aware: negative sales incoming.

You say that the Wii Fit dropoffs are the result of the industry slowing down. I think that is partly the case, but I would also guess that Wii Fit is slowing down on its own. Back in the days of release, only the limited supply held the sales below 200k a week.

I buy most of your predictions, but I still think that by the end of the year Wii Fit will sell at best on par with the PS3. (GAH! I just had a flashback from when I said exactly the same before the america release...)

It may be showing some drops, I'm not sure. I haven't really been looking at the stats for a fair while, so I could be wrong.

If you look at it Month by Month.

I'll take Wii, Ps3, Wii Fit, as well as total software on the Wii.

Jan:
Total SW on Wii: 18952K
Wii: 2326K
Wii Fit: 1833K (That is, 9.6% of the software on Wii, and 78.8% compared to the Wii HW, and 77% more than the Ps3)
Ps3: 1034K

Feb:
Total SW on Wii: 10554K
Wii: 1464K
Wii Fit: 1275K (That is, 12.08% of the software on Wii, and 87% compared to the Wii HW, and 98% more than the Ps3)
Ps3: 644K

Mar:
Total SW on Wii: 9642K
Wii: 1184K
Wii Fit: 1074K (That is, 11.1% of the software on Wii, and 90.7% compared to the Wii HW, and 58% more than the Ps3)
Ps3: 678K

Apr:
Total SW on Wii: 10012K
Wii: 1220K
Wii Fit: 1161K (That is, 11.6% of the software on Wii, and 95.1% compared to the Wii HW, and 79% more than the Ps3)
Ps3: 648K

May: (Note: The others are 4.25 weeks each, whereas May is only 3 weeks)

Total SW on Wii: 4942K
Wii: 685K
Wii Fit: 599K (That is, 12.1% of the software on Wii, and 87.4% compared to the Wii HW, and 103% more than the Ps3)
Ps3: 294K

So in May, Wii Fit had a higher (although only slightly) share of the total software on Wii, and outsold the Ps3 by more than it had done before during the past 5 months. There are signifficant drops among all the 4 examples I used (I'm aware that's not really enough to draw a conclusion), and Wii Fit is actually dropping less than 2 of them.

Concluding: Wii Fit does not appear to drop more than the rest of the industry does.

Finally; Gilgamesh, I doubt ANYONE here thinks that Wii Fit's LT will > Ps3's LT. We're talking about WF being in front of the Ps3 even for a short while.

I do. well, not Wii Fit exactly, but Wii Balance Boards. It's still not easy to find Wii Fit, but you can walk into any big box electronics store and find dozens of PS3s. That's how I got mine, I just walked into Best Buy picked one up and walked to the checkout, (and that was in December!). I've still never seen Wii Fit in a store. Anecdotal evidence, I know. But it's enough to convince me.

It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

Logic. It never fails.

I must agree with that conclusion, after seeing the numbers. I still doubt that Wii Fit sales will rise with the industry though. But that's just me, being pessimistic, as always.

Ah, good point. I didn't really think of that aspect. Hardware oftenly "gets knocked down" (sells less), but normally "gets up again" (I have no clue why I'm using song lyrics when talking about sales...). With software, that's rarely the case. If they first drop, they won't go up before an eventual price cut comes along (or HW gets a major boost).

The chances of the Balance Board getting a pricecut soon are slim. Very slim actually. And thus, Wii Fit may not rise again. I think you have a good point, although it's rather hard to tell.

Actually, Wii Fit IS losing a bit of steam. Sales have not plummeted, but they are lower than ever before. It seems as if by the end of the year, Wii Fit might sell just about as much as the PS3.

If it has not caught up with the PS3 by the end of the year, I believe it will never be able to do that, since by then it will most likely be selling less than 100k on the normal week.

So the questions is whether or not it will oustell the PS3 by the end of the year. With a 100k lead per week, it might be possible, but I doubt Wii Fit will go over 250k per week again, not counting holiday weeks. So if the PS3 manages to sell more than 150k more than a couple of weeks, it should be safe from the embarrassment of being outsold by a Wii game.

I don't think the sales of Wii Fit have fallen for any other reason than the Wii falling. (Edit... ok I was a bit slow to this, it has already been said)

Going by monthly sales (to try smooth any discrepancies)
Wii Fit divided by Wii sales:

May: 88%
Apr: 95%
Mar: 91%
Feb: 87%
Jan: 79%
Dec: 45% (Christmas anomaly as Wii had better supply than Wii Fit)
Nov: 49% (See above)
Oct: 76%
Sep: 78%
Aug: 70%

To me it looks to be doing better than ever (May is an incomplete month by the way, but this is percentage so it probably won't change much)

I think you mean balance board sales. Wii Fit sales will never pass PS3 cause Wii Fit Plus is soon going to come out bundled with the balance board so new buyers will go for Wii Fit Plus rather than Wii Fit. I think balance board sales should pass PS3 by at the latest April of next year.

That is not true... the monthly charts (and yearly) just combine the weekly charts together, they do not split weeks up because the data only comes per week, not per day.

So some of those months will be 4 weeks, and some 5 weeks (except May, which is incomplete of course).... it tells you the dates the data is relavant for on the monthly charts.

Hadn't it previously passed the PS3 then the PS3 came back?
