Forums - Gaming - so Now that Natal/Milo was proven Scripted by IGN and others...thoughts?

Well if it was scripted then damn. Milo was the second coolest thing at MSFT's conference. But please if you can provide a link to where it says that.

IGN also said they tried the demos and Natal works.

Yea scripted....right....

particularly this part:

Now that I've experienced the Milo demo firsthand, though, I can say that I'm almost a believer.

I say "almost" because Milo is definitely in the early stages. In his current state, the AI-powered adolescent doesn't yet understand a lot of what you say. Right now, Milo appears to pick up on inflections and tone of voice rather than the context of what's actually being said. Several times during our demo, for example, I kept asking the character questions just as though he was a real person -- but because of the early stage of his development, he just stared at me wondering what the heck I was talking about.

Believe it or not, the fact that he didn't know what I was talking about made for a revealing personality quirk about Milo -- he lost interest in me completely. Because I wasn't saying anything even remotely understandable, he just started to do his own thing; checking out a coin that he had in his pocket or looking around for something more fascinating. Once I spoke to him again and got his attention, though, (by semi-shouting "Hey Milo! Forget about me?") I was back to getting his full attention.

Now let me rewind a bit and talk about how I met Milo in the first place. After walking into a small meeting room to listen to Molyneux speak about the concept of the game and the character for a few minutes, we were off and running with the live demo. After a short walkthrough by a Lionhead rep, fellow IGN'er Tal Blevins stepped up to the TV and was quickly scanned by the Natal camera in a matter of seconds. Once scanned, Molyneux asked Tal to try and peek around the world as if it were real (which was the same familiar country setting that had Milo sitting in a tree swing next to a pond). Sure enough, the onscreen perspective moved in unison with Tal's head turns -- he looked left and then right and then left again, and each time he did, the screen reacted accordingly, giving Tal a better look at the serene locale.

U either bring facts or stop trolling.

Well, even a idiot would know the presentation was scripted but there were working demos of Burnout Paradise using Natal.

Huh? Show me those videos please, because that elephant demo and ball thingy looked real to me.

I'm pretty sure that the onstage demonstration was real, but there are gullible people who think that the pre-recorded demo video and Milo were actual software, instead of being actors performing choreographed actions in front of a CG video. The water interaction part of the Milo demo might have been real, but the rest of the interaction was obviously scripted.

@ bigdom

Your post seems to support rather than refute the assertion that the Milo demo was scripted.

IGN and many other sites and youtube videos have proven that most if not all f Microsofts Natal videos were Scripted and Fake, particularly Milo, what are your thoughts on it?

Do you think it was just a desperation move by Microsoft to contend with Sony's Camera-Mote concept, and put together last minute, or whatever?

Thoughts! Please!

Flamebait deserves flames.

But I'll try to be civil.

Anyway, couple of things:

1) Actually nothing was proven in terms of Natal being faked. Burnout Worked according to IGN and Milo reacted well BUT it as obvious to the IGN guy that it was in early development because it didn't react to everything (which is understandable or else they would have launched the product at E3 as opposed to announcing it). Also, given how well Natal worked on screen with the now infamous flailing limbs girl, I would say that it was not proven to be fake.

2) Desperation move? I don't think so. Regardless of whether you believe Natal is fake or not, clearly the presentation itself was much more polished than Sony's. If anything MS was bringing it to E3 to take on Nintendo, Sony are clearly in 3rd with the PS3, the momentum they've accumulated this year has not translated to a massive rise in sales. MS were mainly after Nintendo at this E3. I don't mean to bad mouth sony here but judging by the visual quality, it had looked as though they only recently got the technology to work and judging by the presenters it doesn't look they had a large amount of time to devise a proper presentation format (of as high quality as the rest of their conference). Sony made a point to show it in real time, they said it themselves. Perhaps they noticed the reaction to MS's video's of Natal and knew they would receive the same reception if they did it. They benefitted because people knows it actually works, they lost out because people found out how far behind they are from getting a product on the market to compete with Nintendo.

3) I think it was a desperation move by both Sony and MS to contend with Nintendo's Wii-mote product, except that MS's looked like theirs was more polished (whether you believe Natal to work or not).

I think Sony and MS should do us all a favour and not have good press conferences, given the uprising of Fanboys in forums because of it (at least Nintendo fanboys understand that all this momentum could disappear in a weeks time, so they don't feel the need to let everyone know every good thing Nintendo have done). Any benefits they get from it isn't worth the hassle.

Ah, alrighty. It's quite possible to be honest, but I thought Peter showed Milo to a few selected people and they tried it themselves? Some of the comments from the presentation were positive. Only the Kotaku guy made fun of it if I recall correctly (but hey, they're a joke anyway).

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Could this thread be talking about something like this?
http://kotaku.com/5275204/testing-molyneuxs-milo-a-virtual-boy-with-yes-a-dog

"Molyneux had me wrap up the demo by approaching Milo again. He asked me to call Milo over by saying my own name and acting happy. Milo walked up to me and complimented me on my blue shirt (my shirt was indeed blue). Then he stood there, waiting for me to say things. There was a little awkwardness here. The Milo demo was partially being manipulated by a developer who was sitting nearby, and I couldn't tell if he was merely calibrating the game or how much he was pulling its strings. I said nice things to Milo and the virtual boy smiled. I said I was standing next to Peter Molyneux and he sort of sighed. The most charming moment was that blue-shirt moment. It felt like this virtual person made a connection with me."

WHAT!?!?!? Milo wasn't the most complete artificial intelligence ever created?!?!?!?! He couldn't graps the meaning of sentences without having been programmed to respond to them??!?!?

hated Milo because of Peter. "Something science fiction and movies has not even thought of yet"

What the fuck was the movie AI then pete huh? And how about sky net back in the 80's...

I feel like that whole discussion was scripted....the OP is stating the entire presentation was scripted...
