Forums - Sony - Now that sony also has a motion controller.......

I was the first one to wonder this

I'm still thinking this motion control for the ps3 is just a gimmick for now. The major difference between the wii's technology and sony's is the fact that the wii is centered on motion control while the ps3's motion technology will be a footnote- not the actual focus.

God I hope not. Most of those games suck hardcore.

Only if the PS3 motion controller will sell for $20 or less. And there is a slim chance of that.
Otherwise, i doubt it will have a decent enough attach rate to grant decent sales.

Exactly.  You will not see the PS3 become the lead platform for such games either as the install base isn't as high, and this device will not even be with a large percentage of that install base.

Depends. Alot of gamedevelopers choose the ps3 to be the lead platform regardless of the install base.

Only when it comes to HD games where install base difference isn't as big.

Also, they will never use the PS3 as the "lead" console for the Wii considering they both would need completely different developments given their technology differences.

And the focus of my point was on the PS3 motion device having a very small attach rate compared to that of Nintendo which is obviously 100%.

I hope Sony doesn't just brush this off, and actualy gets behind this thing finally. Like mentioned above bundles would do great for getting the device into homes. Games like Tiger Woods, Virtua Tennis, and such could be bundled with the controller and camera. If Sony is smart they will come up with their own mini games collection, and make it even deeper than Wii Sports, Sports resort, and Play combined. Then add in a big name games like, Resistance 3. Follow all of that up with a new IP that focuses on the controls, but maintains the Sony quality (great story, tech showcase). Hell, I bet that The Last Gardian could use this in a very intuitive way.

Personally, I think that Sony's idea of motion is going to make the PS3 even a better motion machine than the Wii. They want motion that makes sense, and can be implemented into the games we all love, without feeling like a tacked on gimic. Just what they showed with the sword and shield was enough to finally get me thinking, maybe motion is more than a joke.

To add to the OP. Gamespot just announced that Peter Dillie has confirmed that this tech is already in the hands of some 3rd party parteners, and is being rolled out to everyone.

I belive that Lond Studios dropped Getaway, and Eight Days to focus on a game with this device in mind, so we should see something from Sony that really shows this tech off soon.

As to PS3 lead platform. It only makes sense from a development platfrom to make things on the best tech and go down from there. Developing that way only makes the lesser platforms better. It is a lot easyer to scale back better tech than it is to advance crappy tech.

You're more likely to see games designed for the PS3's motion control to be ported to the Wii.

There is the other thing - time of availability. Nintendo spent a year from presentation of WM+ to it's release. And WM+ looked finished a year ago. Sony presented a version in developement without even final look of the device.
So, let's say it comes out for holiday 2010. Isn't that a bit late to get in the game? Wii will probably have 65-80 million consoles sold by then, and they will probably be ready to announce the next big thing at that time.

.

I don't think it's gonna happen that often. Nobody's going to buy a motion controlled game on the PS3 that has Wii graphics, and it'd be a huge pain and a ton of money to improve the graphics on an existing game for a port.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Acolyte of Disruption

i highly doubt enough people want motion controls on the PS3 anyway, nor do i see third parties going through all the trouble to port a game from the wii to the PS3. the "wand" or what ever the hell they call it will only do well if enough people are willing to buy it. and i dont think they are. also the remote will need to be pretty cheap, even with bundles.

plus what happened to motion controls (like the wii remote) being gimmicky and stupid. know that sony has them, that makes them all right? that doesnt make sense.
