Actually on second thought... if it were free to play i'd just get it for PC.

When exclusivity is considered of greater importance than the quality of the game itself, that is a sign someone has fanboy mindthink.

If it is Free-to-Play, then it is going to have a bigger impact since more people would get it with out having to dish out $120+ a year to play it. I could see this actually selling a couple million, and even I would be interested. |
Free to play, but they also end up having ingame advertising and also expect you to buy in game items with real cash.
Anyhow, I wonder how Free Realm is coming along.

I'm actually praying that the game will be more like Guildwars -- a half-mmo structured around instances in a way that allows the world and the story within in the world to progress and change around each individual player, without big server announcements like "world changing: santas in orgrimmar for christmas!"
I think if they went this way, they actually could make something pretty awesome.

Just saw this the other day on Kotaku:

I think free-to-play could be a good idea for SE, especially if they're releasing it on 360 soon after it launches. Console gamers like to play a variety of different games, and having to pay 15.00 a month kind of makes you feel like you're wasting time if you're playing some other game.
On the other hand, with SE's illustrious history of charging more than anyone else for pretty much everything, I shudder to think how any model they develop themselves would work.

Did you even SEE the damn Interview for FFXIV? It IS CONSOLE exclusive (In 2010 anyway...), know your facts before you start talking shit. |
Big talk from a guy who doesn't seem to understand basic english.
Anyway is it F2P or not? Maybe I am the only one around here but I am not a big fan of it, I much prefer P2P, that way everybody is on even ground.

Yeah, most of this quibbling over specifics won't get us anywhere until we actually know something about the game, aside from the fact that the art looks amazing, and it's a successor to XI...
What happened to the "It would be cool if they did this" stage with this game? Between the MMO haters and the fanboy-inclined haters there doesn't seem to be room for it... I think this thing is going to be a continuous two-year scandal (or more, knowing SE?)
When FFXI came out, it was the best MMO. It had a huge following for years.
The problem and benefit with f2p is that players aren't as committed, they move on to other games. The good part is that more people will buy it the first time and server upkeep isn't that big of a deal if a lot of people stop playing after a while. The people who do keep playing will want to buy in-game gear and expansions, so what the heck? It's worth a shot.
As for being PC-PS3 exclusive, I just don't know. This is a bad thing. Exclusivity, just for the sake of it, hurts gaming. Now, if the pricing structure won't work because of LIVE's one time exemption to FFXI, then that is a different story.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
I'm also in the "hoping this comes to 360" camp -- for a bigger install base, because the game probably won't have the optimzations that an exclusive might have anyway, and last but not least, because how awesome would it be to have cross-platform play between PC, 360, and PS3 in a Final Fantasy MMO?

free to play ? that's pretty awesome. Regardless it's a semi exclusive...
But that it's free to play gets me a bit excited for it. I don't play mmos with monthly fees :P
