People's purchasing habits are unusual, they're willing to spend $200 on Rockband or $100 on Wii Fit, but the Playstation Eye is too expensive for people at $40 ... If people see value in Project NATAL Microsoft could sell a lot at $200, if they don't it won't take off at $50.
I don't think it's an issue of something being too expensive, but it having a perceived value of being better.
If NATAL enables for a fantastic fitness game, and Oprah (among others) get in on it, I'm sure it'll sell well, regardless of price. Otherwise, it will flop and the price will be irrelevant.
My point was that you can't really put a pricetag on a quality product. The Wii is excruciatingly overpriced for what you get in the machine. However, it has a high perceived value due to the unique controller, which has allowed it to sell better than the 360/PS3, despite it's abysmal shortcomings.

IGN wouldnt say theres alot of games and we will see them very soon if it wasn't true. We will likely be given an exact release date in the next few months. |
I started to read this thread (obviously got this far) but then decided it wasn't worth my time to read all the posts, but I really wanted to say this.
IGN said that Kid Icuras was going to be shown at E3 08. They have made lots of other statements that they said were 100% true then failed to come true. Believing E3 is like believing surfer girl or biker boy, or whatever other lame blog you want.

Big difference between 100 and 200 dollars, especially when you have to buy another console for one or two games, Wii Fit is one extra game on an already popular console, the Wii, people know that the Wii will have a bunch of motion control exergames, NATAL is an addon late in the lifespan of 360, and its not likely to get a lot of support from developers, its apples and oranges between Wii Fit and NATAL
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

We can argue about sensitivity when it is closer to being a real product ... But how do you move (forward, backwards, strafe left, strafe right), crouch, jump, rotate camera (left, right, up, down), reload weapons, and switch weapons? How do you know that the lag isn't inherant of needing multiple datapoints to identify motion and (therfore) always being several camera-frames behind the user's motion? How do you know they will be able to solve the glitch problems? How do you know that Milo wasn't entirely scripted, and you could tell him to "Go to hell" and he would gladly continue along his script? You seem completely unwilling to consider any possiblity except that everything that was shown was entirely possible and will be better than you could possibly imagine ... Which is unrealistic and is setting yourself up for disapointment. |
You sir, completely misread everything I had posted her. You also fail to see the obviouise. You first question (how do you move forward, backwards, strafe left. etc.) has an obviouse answer, you actually perform those actions. you want to straft left, move left, you wanna jump, jump, you wanna turn around, twist your body. you wanna reload your weapon, act like you are reloading a gun, you wanna switch weapons, just say so!
The lag you speak on probably does need several data points, but as the software develops, they should find a way to more efficiantly pick those points, thus resulting in less lag. Also, the 3D feature helps reduce lag, since it is able to pick up more points. Also, nobody said MILO wasn't "scripted" he isn't in a sense, but as will all programs, he has his limitations. He "learns" from the person playing the game, and adapts to what he knows. Even if it's not your cup of tea, it's very impressive software.

From the post:
"Absolutely," Moore said. "Natal is the perfect example of what you could do there. If you could imagine EA Sports Active done via Natal ... and we are working on that right now, we saw Natal a couple months ago and we started thinking about how we could bring health/wellness and fitness to a Natal-type experience. Same with Sony with the motion controller, how can you utilize what they showed on Tuesday to bring fitness to that. But I think Natal is a huge opportunity."
lmao. an excersie video as a killer app. you can rent exercise videos att he library for free. if i want to work out I'll go to the gym where all the real man work out at.
How about a 300 workout where you move your body while mutilating Persians?

You can rent an exercise vid at a library, yes, but will it get you motivated? Imagine the game pressing you harder, reacting to your face of pain as you feel the burn. If people wanted to to work out at the gym, they wouldn't be buying Wii fit.
