Forums - Nintendo - Is Wii M+ = to Sony Motion Control?

They're more or less the same thing. Sony tried to one up them by having two wands and the eye Toy, but that means instead of the Wii's one accessory per person you have to have two wands per person and one Eyetoy for everybody.

Also, the WM+ is coming out in a month or two while the PS Wands have more than a year and nothing but tech demo's that the WM+ is already doing in Wii Sports Resort for the most part.

It is blatantly obvious that Sony wants to cash in on Nintendo's parade (which there's nothing wrong with) and they are still in *very* early stages of the wands.  They don't even have the final look for them yet and the people demoing it didn't even have time to learn their own tech demos.

If this was happened 1-2 years ago, maybe or if they actually had a game to show off, maybe, or if it was coming out next month, maybe, but right now it's just too little too late.

late for what? (chuckle) It's not like soccer moms and kids will be in a hurry to buy a PS3 to play casual games anyway.

PS3 motion controller (as well as Natal) is just one more optional way of having fun with your console, it's not like Sony and MS are about to go 90% crappy casual games like Nintendo does.

For the too late comment, the Wii has already captured all the family friendly people and will have already had the WM+ in peoples hands for a year (I think it will be longer because I honestly don't believe we will see anything released for the wands by Spring 2010).

As I said, if they did this 1-2 years ago, great, otherwise, they're just trying to catch up to the Wii with something that isn't built into the system like the Wii is fully integrated (with the remotes at least).

And yes, the wands are another option but accessories don't sell well unless they are well supported.

With the Wii, every Wii game (or nearly all) include motion support because their motion controller is part of the system.  WM+ is made to imrpove upon what's already there by having games that allow WM+ and games that are built for it.  There are already a good amount of games that are going to support WM+.

So what about the wands?  In order to use the wands, you must have two wands and an eyeToy so that's already one large barrier to entry but then how well will these be supported.  I bet there will be a Wii Sports like game and possibly one or two others, but then what after that?  Unless this thing actually gets supported it won't sell.

Accessories have a hard time selling unless they have a breakout hit.

The Wii remote has Wii Sports.  WM+ has Wii Sports Resort.  The Balance Board has Wii Fit.  The guitar controller has Guitar Hero.

What does the Eye Toy have?  Eye of Judgment?  How many games have been released that use the Eye Toy within the last year?  How many of those games, if any, actually made any kind of a splash?  That should be a pretty good indication of what people think of peripherals that aren't supported.

These wands aren't part of the PS3 like the Wii remotes and WM+ are, they are just another accessory.  Sony could release some sort of breakout hit but you don't generally count on miracles happening.

Viper, what did you think of the 3 big conferences?

I´m always curious to read what someone who knows people in the industry has to say.

If there is no additional input added, their only application will be party games, wii-sports style sports games (you don't control the player's movement), racing games, on rails games, and maybe some RTS games. The vast majority of these, MS and SONY fans have been bashing since the Wii's inception.

ps3 comes with a dualshock so what ? mine came with 2 sixaxis and 2 games. That's unrelated to what you need to play. If were talking value that comes with the system the ps3 bundles comes with atleast equal to the wii.. And even more cause they don't need batteries.

Do you even read what people write?

What do you need that you don't already have for a WM+ game?

  • Wii Motion Plus accessory for every remote

What do you need that you don't already have for a Sony Wand game?

  • Two wands for every player
  • EyeToy

So lets say you have 4 players since that's the magic number for casual games, for the Wii, that's 4 WM+'s and for the PS3, that's 8 wands and one eye toy.

See a diffence?

I don't give two craps about what came with your PS3 because that's not what I'm talking about, I'm just talking about assuming you have the base things you will need in addition to in order to play these games.

sonys glowing ballz are capable of more.. motion wise.

Any examples ? Except their obvious possible use as dildos.

well we don't know if it has rumble yet so the wii mote might still make the better dildo.. especially with it's rubber wrapping.

But it can read more axis :p

it percepts better in full 3d and dept , the camera also tracks motion and helps it along while it's able to use facial  recognision and it has a microhpone.. (or 4 or something wack)

Voice and facial recognition???? Ummmm exactly in what part of the sony conference was this revealed???

What do you expect ? this comes out later. Beisdes you don't know if you'll need too yet. Also the technology is different so it may be priced differently aswell. And it has glowing balls.

@dclkeel. They didn't The ps eye have been able to do this since it was launched.

Check out my game about moles ^

Can someone explain to me where staude is getting this pseye facial and voice recognition nonsense from? And don't tell me the pseye, because it does this very badly, both.

Sony supports it's accesories like it supports Microsoft......

I can't believe you mentioned that, pseye's voice and facial recognition tech is so raw and primitive they don't even try to use it. Except in games with preset voice commands. Gimme a break staude, you don't work for sony, no need for damage control now.

My predictions for Motion Control:

Sony's will be launched before MS and will be supported by developers on the level that the eye toy is now.

MS will launch with a much decreased functionality list, and utilize it mostly for party games, control over the dashboard, and non-gaming functionality.

Sony's has more potential for game applicability, but it won't be supported.

To be fair, you should mention for the Wii you will need 3 Wiimotes + 3 Nunchuck + 4 Motion Plus.  With this I am not disputing the PS3 owner needs to buy more stuff than the Wii owner, but the difference is not as huge as you say.
