Forums - Gaming - Why so pumped because a trailer?

In the case of the Last Guardian it was put together with better editing, music, etc. than most games and conveyed story and emotion on a level with a film trailer. To not react to it is to turn off your appreciation for vision and sound.

I'd say the same for the Uncharted trailer - really fun and lots of story.

As for pure gameplay trailers? I've never found them interesting other than as an aid to evaluate a potential purchase. I sure don't get excited just because I'm seeing a snippet of a battle from an RPG, etc.

I guess I'm saying that a trailer for a game with a strong narrative and story makes sense, while a trailer for a pure game - i.e. its all about gameplay, doesn't make as much sense per se.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

@mibuokami

Dude, a lot of that was clearly in game :)

For example, the guard getting hit by a barell and falling over... those animations were definitely part of a game's physics engine.  You wouldn't animate something that idiosyncratically just for a cutscene...  well, maybe team ICO would, since their cutscenes become their gameplay at times...

But really, the kid's animatons seemed clearly controlled at some points in the movie, while in other parts, like when the griffon is coasting through the water and the boy jumps off of him, it seems more like animation just made to look good, which you wouldn't control.

*edit* of course, even if it were in-game, in-engine, etc etc, I suppose it could still be doctored up for the trailer.  But for, only time will tell.  Have you seen the horse in shadow of the colossus?  It's probably the most photorealistic thing on the PS2.

@ mibuokami, I am not sure, but yeah I think it was certainly all in engine, and I am pretty certain there was some gameplay in there late on

@munkeh111 yeah I saw the gameplay bit but none of the gameplay section was show the big bird/cat thingy, that animal was so unbelievably detailed that I cannot believe that is what it looks like in game, there has to be some trick to it its too good!

There's a part where the boy throws a barrel into the creature's mouth.  Pretty sure that would be gameplay, seems like an odd thing to embellish...  A little hard to believe, I guess, though.  We'll have to wait and see :)

Well gametrailers provide us with the direction of the story, the direction they are taking artistically and what they hope to achieve with the final product. Not to mention getting us all excited without even showing in-game footage.

Perfect example is the E3 Cgi Trailer for Killzone 2. It did everything a good trailer should do.
