Forums - Sales Discussion - What do you think sales of the 360, PS2, and PS3 will be over Holidays?

First, I left out the Wii. Sorry. It was SEVERELY supply constrained and the numbers are relatively meaningless. Some will argue that the PS3 was supply constrained as well, but it was for a very brief period, right around launch. There was plenty of stock to go around through Christmas. My question is simple. What will holiday sales look like for the Three consoles. THis isn't a troll or fanboy thread and I have put together Nov-Dec 06 North American Sales for your viewing pleasure:

Week 360     PS2 PS3

How will the PS2 do against the 360 this year? What kind of increase will we see for the PS3 this year over last?

I'll leave out my opinion as I don't want to start this off on the wrong foot...

*Edit* The chart is from VGChartz weekly North American Sales...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I expect the PS3 to bow to the knees of the 360 this holiday....lol....j/k

Really I expect the 360 to do good considering we have Halo 3 now out (I went to the midnight launch by the way) and now we have really good bargain games. We can expect Gears of War to be in the Platinum Collection and several others. Expect the Falcon versions to be released so to seriously get rid of those RRoD issues. 360 is green this holiday no worries.

PSP, now that the Slim is out there is completely some competition going on with the DS as the PSP is outselling it for 2 weeks now. It just seems the DS is getting dried up.

Good holiday for both 360 and PSP. No worries for me

Wii, I expect to do great cause its a $250 console competing against a $400 360 and a $600 PS3. So nothing new there. Just surprised its getting flat in Japan O_O

PS3, a little increase, nothing spectaular, they have what 3 or 4 new releases that are exclusives and the rest are multiplatform.

So looking good for all, but especially the 360.

As a guideline you (typically) see somewhere between 2 and 4 times the average weekly/monthly sales for a system in November and December. I personally expect the PS3 and XBox 360 to sell between 750,000 and 1.5 Million units per month whereas the Wii will sell between 2.5 and 4 Million units per month.

The one thing I think that could end up being interesting this christmas is that (currently) there has been a drop in consumer confidence which (if extended through the holiday season) could mean that people spend less and stay away from larger purchases.

How about some numbers based on last year? I don't doubt that the PS3 will sell more this Holiday than last... That's pretty much a no-brainer. Will the PS2 maintain that big number or fall off as people buy next-gen? Will the 360 be able to outsell last year?

@HappySqurriel: Do you think that there will be that many Wii systems avalible? Wii it's pretty much outsold on the normal basis so I think it will be really hard to get one on Christamas. And unless Nintendo is keeping huge amount of systems just for November-December time there won't be a big increase in Wii sales. Imo Xbox 360 has the biggest chance to win Chrimstamas.

I'm pretty sure we will be hearing about an increase in manufacturing, starting in October, when Nintendo releases their mid-year report. I could be wrong but I suspect their facilities were upgraded by the begining of September and they kept their supply fixed so that they would hit the 12 Million unit sold barrier for this reporting period, and they would then release these systems in November (along side black friday).

I would just like to say that the PS3 was supply constrained during last Christmas. I never saw one in stores for several months after release. I think th e360 will sell more then the PS2 this year, but beyond that i'm not sure of the sales.

But they would have to increase it considerably. Twice what they produce now probably wouldn't be enough. But if they can satisfy demand than Wii is the one to win.

The PS2 will drop off ALOT this Christmas because of the PS3 and X360.
