Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy XIV Failure Inevitable?

Well what do you know, it's releasing simultaneously on PS3 and PC so looks like your argument is completely blown out of the water.

Ugh, it's funny how FF on XBOX was considered a ''Meltdown'' but now that Sony has secured back the exclusivity for the next title in the MAIN franchise, it's now considered to be no big deal.

It doesn't make sense. The game just got announced, stop saying that it will be exactly like XI just because it's online.

Suddenly Online FF is MEGATON. WOW anyone?

FFXI was quite big in Japan. In fact it was the biggest MMO game in Japan for a long time. (WoW is not that popular there).

Sales matter? I consider myself the new ICO guys game as a very great announcement like many others did on this forum.

This game will be a success just like FFXI. IMO, it has a very good chance being a great MMO due to their MMO experiences, as well has getting ideas and influences from other MMO's

I have to disagree with you Stan....it's coming to the ps3 and pc so I see no reason it would fail.

The 360 doesn't have much interest in JRPG's so it would be a waste and the ps2 interest is falling rapidly (and the ps2 is the wrong userbase for an MMO...if they won't spend the money to upgrade to a next-gen console, I doubt many will spend a monthly fee).

PC and PS3 is all it needs to succeed.  Hell, most MMO's put their success on one platform alone--pc....so it's even better to have it offered up on 2.

****Edit****  Just saw that you didn't realize it was coming out on pc too!

Not necessarily my friend. Did you skip my thoughts in what has helped make WoW so succesful? I can guarantee you that FFXIV will not have t he same requirements that WoW does limiting a HUGE chunk of people that play WoW. Or do you believe that WoW's success was thanks to hardcore players? I can guarantee you that a very small niche people would upgrade to play this. Now its only hope is the PS3 userbase and again, how many people are willing to shed monthly fees? I'm sure it won't be as many as the total  userbase that FFXI has

What are you looking at, nerd?

Since when does an MMO need 1-2 million subscribers? Unless things have changed radically in the past five years, a few hundred grand is plenty...

So now theres a thread trying to shoot FFXIV???...so all of a sudden now FF has potential to fail???..*sigh*

FFXI's requirements weren't that hefty and I don't expect FFIV's to be that hefty.  I had a shitty PC back in the day and I could play FFXI just fun, the only thing you need is the good internet connection.

Yes, they will be greater than that of WoW's but that's because WoW is, what, five years old?
