Like most people, not disappointed in the least bit, but a bit surprised. I expected the NSMB Wii, and suspected an SMG2, but didn't think they'd announce it this soon. I also expected a Zelda Wii and didn't get that, but instead they announced a new Metroid which was awesome :D.

Great

Metroid and Golden Sun 3 pretty much made my day. I've enjoyed every Mario game I played, so announcing new entries was a no brainer.

I don't think it's fair to call SMG 2 a level pack. It seems to have new powerups, new gameplay elements with Yoshi, and that's just what we know from a single debut trailer. Just because it has the same graphics as SMG that doesn't make it a level pack.

It's a sequel, that's what it is. And apparently a very fun one.

I'd say the word is "better" or perhaps "redemption". No megaton shockers, but plenty of pleasant surprises (Golden Sun 3, YES!). But it certainly is leaps and bounds over the '08 presentation.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Good summation, sort of. SMG2 wasn't a huge surprise, we knew i was coming. It was more surprising that it was the fourth big Mario title shown. After NSMBWii, MvDK3, and M&L RPG, I would have bet on a different franchise getting the showcase.

Metroid shocked the hell out of me.

Now why the "sort of"? Because those announcements made up a small (but significant) amount of the presentation - the rest was utterly predictable. Same people (Reggie, Cammie, Iwata), same videos of people playing games, same reiteration of their philosophy (is there anyone who still doesn't get it?), same corny jokes, overrehearsed delivery, and low key presentation.

Great for news, but as entertainment, it was a dud.
