I haven't got to watch the full Microsoft coverage, and I only saw the CGI trailer, and the gameplay walkthrough/trailer.
Disclaimer: I only own a PS3.
Positives:
- NO SOCIAL STEALTH! Fucking yes, Montreal actually fucking didn't make Splinter Cell an modern day Assassin's Creed.
- Seeing Sam climb the pipe like he used to.
- Seeing Sam jump out the window to get out of a stick situation, and smoothly transition to stealth.
Negatives:
- The story. So what? Williams organized the death of Sarah, to psychologically control Sam into being depressed and infiltrating the JBA? It sounds way far fetched to me... and I'll get sick if I constantly have to hear Ironside franticly shout "Who killed my daughter?!"
- The emphasis on shooting. Now granted, Splinter Cell always showed action in its trailers to appeal to casuals who don't like stealth games, but when it came to the real game, going head on towards an enemy, in broad day light was out of the question. I didn't like how Sam could go barge through the door with the enemy prepared, and not get shot down in seconds when he was just standing there.
- Snappy shooting. I hope that it's just because of it being a demo/trailer that the guy could get swing from head shot to head shot. Please no GTA IV aiming =/
- Jason Bourne action scenes. I prefer the quick knife to the neck, rather than have to go through the fancy and long fight animation.
============================
It looks like my negatives look more bigger than my positives, but it's not my intentions. My only worries are that now Splinter Cell has become much much more action oriented, and is still going with the Jason Bourne theme, rather than the Tom Clancy theme that's in its name.
