Also, why is this game a spinoff but FF Verses XIII isn't? We don't know anything about this game. It could be a full and important non-spinoff, non main series entry, like Verses XIII, couldn't it?

I personally don't consider Versus a spin-off because it is its own game and its own story, having nothing to do with FFXIII. From what I understand, Nomura and Kitase both had their own vision of FFXIII, so this was the way for them both to materialize.

Rising is using an already established character to fill in the gaps of an already established story.

So, FF:CC meets all your criteria for being a "non-spinoff" It has its own story, and it is a different vision of Final Fantasy. I think the real reason is the game is a PS3 exclusive. I believe that if the game was a 360 exclusive, or a multiplat, it would be much more often referred to as a spinoff.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

Also, wher did you get all that info about the new MGS game? What is the gaps it fills in? What is the story about?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

Well MGS has never really been a Sony franchise mostly because of Twin Snakes, MGS on PC, MGS 2 on Xbox and now MGS:Rising.

I think it has. It hasn't been fully exclusive, but like Final Fantasy before it, it is still very much considered a "Playstation franchise." That is why most people screamed out "Metal Gear Solid" when the MS guy asked what franchise was missing from the console. That isn't fully "exclusive" but it sure as hell is a Sony franchise, and a talking point for buying the console, like Final Fantasy was before last year.

IMO that is.

It technically still is, or was, for this generation. MGS4 remained on the PS3 only, so Sony reaped all the benefits of the hardware push that MGS would provide.

There will be little in the way of console purchasing for the release of MGS: Rising.

If the franchise is now on Xbox, then next generation it won't help the PS4 at all. Plus, consoles are sold to people who don't already own one. It could effect the decisions of people who would buy an HD console just for this game, or who maybe played MGS4 at their friends house. Keeps them from having to buy a PS3 to play the MGS franchise in the future. I know the MGS franchise was a main reason I bought mine.

Well It's just Sony Fanboys calling it a spin off, it looks like a regular MGS to me. And i am so excited 360 fans get to taste one of the best franchise in gaming.

Well it isn't called MGS5: The Rise of Raiden is it?

Also, how does it look like a regular MGS when there is no gameplay footage?

Not that we know of, This game probably just started development.

Exactly, how do we know it is NOT like Verses XIII? Why is it "just a spinoff".

I think some people are pulling a "spin"off alright.

(I'm agreeing with you, psrock)

I'm going to guess the franchise.

They did say "franchise" so I guess that is what we have to assume until Kojima tells us different. :P

Did you play MGS4?  It's obviously going to take place between MGS2 and MGS4.  Unless Kojima has some batshit insane ideas brewing in his head, which is entirely possible.  I would actually be pretty disappointed if the game takes place after MGS4.  I mean, EVERYTHING basically gets wrapped up at the end of the game, in some weird convoluted way.  Not everything made sense, but everything ended.  So it's gotta be about Raiden between MGS2 and MGS4.

I don't view FF:CC as a spin-off either. I view it as its own entity as a game apart of the franchise, for me, a spin-off must have a direct correlation to a prior game. FF:CC is its own game FFX-2 is a sequel and FF7:DoC is a spin-off.

As for Rising, that is my assumption based on what little we know of the game. Based on the way MGS4 ends, it cannot be a sequel since Raiden takes the Cyborg stuff off and rekindles his life with his wife and son.

Rising cannot be like Verses, it's not like Noctis is a supporting character in FFXIII.

There is no feasible way that MGS:Rising can be to MGS4 what Versus is FFXIII.

Rising could be better than MGS4, for all you know. Degrading it before you know anything about it can only be due to alterior motives, no matter what the subject.

Raiden was the main character in MGS2.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

-Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (Game Cube)
-Metal Gear Solid (PC)
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (PC)

Is not an exclusive franchise for the Sony consoles.
