Same here, dont own one myself. Would be a nice touch.

On the other hand, a basic DVD player costs 30 Euros in Germany.....

I suspect that if they do add it, it will become a channel and there will be wii points involved. I'm certain there will have to be some kind of software to enable playback and that software will require a license fee of some sort. I'm sure that's why it isn't there in the first place -- to keep the Wii as cheap and profitable as possible.

why not just settle by using orb on wii to view ur downloaded movies from internet.

but if necessary, as mentioned above there is a system mod available now.

If they added it to the shop though, that would b a gr8 idea. that way people who want it can buy it, and those who dont and want to keep costs to a minimum dont buy it :P

I suspect it is to keep the Wii as profitable as possible. How much would it cost Nintendo to include this and would it really increase the retail price? I doubt it, as I think the retail price is not really driven by the HW cost, at least for the Wii. I assume Nintendo could sell it in Europe for 199 EUR and still make a profit. Currently, its 249 EUR.

i guess it could go either way...but then again i think nintendo is really trying to focus on just gaming at the moment and holding off on going towards more then a game machine
