So we are in effect, agreeing. I said this, "I don't believe any current console can really do what the marketing here is claiming."
That's the same as saying that Natal on the 360 will just be a testbed. It's too late in the cycle to make this thing really "work".
Great concept but needs to be a standard part of the whole platform.
But hey, they (the guys on stage) were the ones repeatedly marketing Natal as being able to work with every 360 ever sold and to be sold.
This is why "marketing" is basically what it is. I'm trying to read the reality of it. Hence why I started with everything I said here using the word "Skeptic". |
Nah, we don't agree. You are just trying to spin it in order to pursue an agenda and making false conclusions to further your non-stated goal.
Natal will work and they'll get things going on with it on the 360.
Testbed as in they want time for developers to get acquinted with it, get corporations to spend R+D budget to find out what works what doesn't and refine the experience so when it comes back as an integral part of the console it offers a better experience than early Wii waggle games. Sort of how XboxLive was already on the first Xbox and they used all the feedback and years of R+D to fully harness it on the 360.
But carry on please, you are doing damage control on many threads atm and are probably rather busy.

Umm, what can I say. "adverserial" comes to mind. Dude, I am not trying to spin it in any way whatsoever. Natal is very conceptual at this stage. I am looking at it pragmatically. Of course it is the most revolutionary approach to motion control yet. What I wrote last night was Pre-Sony E3 press and after seeing the Sony E3 motion, there is no doubt that Natal is far more advanced, bold, and revolutionary. But like one person wrote somewhere in the plethora of threads going on about this subject - "so you say bang bang when you want to shoot?". And pragmatically speaking, I see Natal with no release date. That's all good, and it's not leveraged as a criticism. It's simply evidence it's in early stages. They said, the dev kits go out today. And I am not trying to push Sony here, but they said their less advanced motion control system will be out by next year. That's probably because it's less revolutionary.
But you know what I really think? Sony and MS missed the boat in this gen when it comes to motion control. Nintendo stole this gen by doing effectively a GC2 with what we thought was a "revolutionary" control. And it worked. And the working name for the Wii was the Nintendo Revolution. Not hard to see why.
I still think you cannot inherently split your userbase. With Natal, still being rather conceptual and no release date, like one other posted, they are just buttering it up for the next gen 720. Your words? "A testbed".
With humility, I am more than happy to be shown wrong after time. But I did start what i said with the word "skepticism". Look up the meaning. It does not mean damage control. But I know I humbly have healthy skepticism because I'd be happy to be wrong.
