Back in early 2002, I discovered a little game at Blockbuster called the Way of the Samurai. It involved playing as a lone wandering samurai who encounters a small village, a village torn apart by two warring gangs, as well as a little Meiji government interference behind the scenes. Upon entering the village, you had three days over which to choose your path. You could pick which faction to side with, or help out the innocents being caught in the fray. You could find and upgrade weapons, chat with people all over town, pick fights whenever you wanted, and overall you had a lot of control in what you could do. I absolutely loved the game. A few years later, the Way of the Samurai 2 was released, and while I was a bit late to the party on that one, I still enjoyed it immensley. It was similar in concept to the first, but took place over eight days rather than a mere three.
Back when the ps3 was announced in 2005, many games were announced alongside with it, one of which was the Way of the Samurai 3. There were no screens, not even a summary of the game, but I was amped for it just the same, and it was literally one of the reasons I bought a ps3.
The game went MIA for a couple of years, and then showed up back in early '08 with a pending release date for Japan. The released screens looked pretty bad, but the series was never known for its graphics, and I was still very excited for the game.
It finally released in Japan right around the end of '08, and it was then announced that the game would be multiplat for its western release.
Then the western version went MIA, and a 360 version eventually made its way out in Japan.
Two days ago, the western version reappeard, and I thought, finally, after four years of anticipation, I might get to play this game.
But no. Apparently the game has gone 360 exclusive for NA.
