Forums - Sales - My theory on why Wii sales have dropped

My personal theory is that Nintendo preparing for the holiday season and allocating more units to underserved regions away from Japan. I don't think demand has really dropped as much as supply as dropped.

I would have to be in Japan to get an accurate assessment. If the Wiis & DS's are out of stock but sell that low number that means supply has dropped and they are revving up for this big holiday season.

Around the Network

Wii is still selling over 200K/week and outsold 360 and PS3 combined each of the last 3 weeks during the "sales decline", despite recent price cuts for both consoles, the launches of BioShock, Lair, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword, and the looming release of Halo 3.

Most, if not all, of the "sales decline" is due to a seasonal, if puzzling, dip for all systems in Japan.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

HappySqurriel --> that would be good number 12 + 9 million sold by March 31st 2008. But maybe a little lower :p about 18-20 million. It all depends if Big N can get those system out there for X-mas season.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

You lucky yankees, $450 for Wii+stuff... I bought my Wii only for $450 :0

Sales aren't dropping here in the americas. For Japan is a traditional time for slow sales unless something big comes out... if the new PSP was to be launched on another time of the year, sales would be higher too.

Offtopic @leo-j: Well, I think it depends on the region. Here the front of the stores has the Wiis and the Wii games (the front window of the shops has Wiis too), then at the other side you've got the 360 stuff. Then the DS stuff. Then PS2. And at the smallest nook you got the PS3 and PSP stuff.
