Forums - Microsoft - $14.5 Billion in Revenue for the 360!

M$ is touting the 30 million sold number, but another number to round out that figure is this $14.5 billion generated at retail!  WOW....that is a stunning number indeed, and something that clearly shows how successful the 360 has been, despite some major/minor setbacks.  For anybody expecting a short lifespan for the 360...I'd sugeest you stop waiting, because when you can launch a product and generate that much revenue in that timespan, you're doing ALOT right.  BTW, this doesn't seem to included XBL sales, although I could be incorrect:

Nintendo may have the clear lead on the rest of the industry, with more than 50 million Wiis sold, but Microsoft's not upset with its numbers, either. The company just announced Xbox 360 has officially surpassed 30 million units sold worldwide and claims more than 20 million active Xbox Live members.

"We expect our growth to continue to accelerate," said Microsoft senior VP of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick in the press release. "Our news at E3 next week will underscore our commitment to bringing blockbuster entertainment experiences to everyone and to growing the Xbox entertainment brand globally."

Microsoft has been hyping its E3 announcements for several weeks now, promising to "completely transform how people think about home entertainment." Who knows what that means, but it's probably going to be include more enhancements to Xbox Live; last E3, Microsoft transformed the look of its hardware's interface with the slick-looking New Xbox Experience and personalized Avatar system.

Another impressive number included in Microsoft's announcement: consumers have downloaded more than one billion pieces of content from the Xbox Live marketplace. It's worth noting, however, that Microsoft did not say "purchase" -- this includes all the free content available on Xbox Live, as well. Microsoft has not disclosed how much has been purchased over Xbox Live, though it had no trouble bragging that consumers have spent more than $14.5 billion on Xbox 360-related materials at retail.

Are there any readers of TheFeed that don't own an Xbox 360?

That's quite impressive if it wasn't for the low profit.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

14.4 billion in revenue, but it has not even made profit yet. Which means that the 360 actually lost Microsoft money.

EDD las low profit, which isn't the same thing as saying 360 has low profit...but we will just ingore that little fact...

There is Revenue and there is Profit... Sadly this Revenue does not = Profit for MS!

Then again not many companies in the electronic business at the moment are announcing profits, apart from Nintendo of course lol

Thats quite an impressive amount really...

Tease.

the zune is killing the edd. the xbox i heard was making plenty of profit

umm..at $250 a console the wii has over $12.5 billion in retail revenue with just the wii console hardware.

soo. what is "xbox-related" mean?  does this number includes anything other than just hardware/extra controllers?  i imagine software cannot be included here.

This is only in the US
"Over the course of this console generation, U.S. consumers alone have spent $14.5 billion across all categories on Xbox 360 at retail"
